Top 5 favorite movies of 2017

Image
1) La La Land. : Where to even begin with this? one of the first movies I saw this year and right away it left such a big impact and was in the running for my favorite movie this year. Everything about it is just perfect and memorable from it's characters to it's musical numbers which are just amazing to even the ending which really ended on a somber note but personally it was the perfect ending at least for me. This should have won the best picture at the Academy Awards, no offense to Moonlight but this was far superior. I love La La Land so much and still find myself going back to watch and listen to it's soundtrack every now and again and that is why it's my favorite movie of the year. 2 )  Baby Driver : Edgar Wright's masterpiece was something that came out of left field as far as I was concerned. I always knew Edge Wright was talented Scott Pilgrim and Shaun Of The Dead come to mind but I think this tops them all. It's fast pace and quirky dialogue not

Get Out review

Image
Having not see this movie during it's original release towards the beginning of the year I'm probably late to the party with this review but wow this movie really lived up to the hype that everyone I've talked to or seen talk about it. Get Out is unique in both it's story and character development. Sure it isn't going to be for everyone but once the ending came I was left with a sense of actually wanting more and that is the sign of a really good movie experience. As I said the story is unique as it showcases racism in a way that I've never seen in a movie. It's light hearted but sometimes goes full on dark in some of the latter scenes and the twist while predictable doesn't feel out of place at all and actually added more to the movie as a whole at least I say it that way. The performances are also really good here with Daniel Kaluuya playing his role to perfection. He's cautious, funny at times and down right brutal at others. Allison Williams

Pitch Perfect 3 review

Image
The Pitches are back (sorry that was terrible I know) for one final gig and while there is some great moments the bad and silly moments completely outshine them. First off I'll begin by saying that I love the previous two movies the sequel especially being my favorite it really turned the volume up to the max from the first movie and it worked so well. This 3rd entry tries to do the same but it fails on a lot of levels and at times doesn't even feel like a Pitch Perfect movie which is so unfortunate because I really expected more from this especially as it is the sendoff movie in the franchise. And with that being said that brings me to my biggest issue with the movie it has no real identity. Sure it's filled with some charm from the previous two movies but besides that it tries to do a whole number of different things and it just flounders along. It actually felt a bit draggy at points only held together by the musical scenes which in true fashion are really good. But

Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi review

Image
Having only gotten into this franchise not long before The Force Awakens arrived 2 years ago I unlike so many others really didn't get as hyped for this movie. I have some friends who were really excited for this and after seeing it I can understand why hardcore fans would be upset with it. But myself not really being that big of a fan it was a really enjoyable experience that while not perfect by any means it left me feeling satisfied once the end credits began to role. As I said I only got into these movies a little over 2 years ago and honestly I don't know much about the entire saga never really wanting to go into the lore of it all. The first 30-40 mins of this movie though wow it really drags it heels along. It's boring mundane and just flat out tiring. It's held together only by a pretty fantastic opening sequence right away stands out and you'll remember even when the movie ends. The performances in this are a bit hard to explain it's best to go s

The Disaster Artist review

Image
The Disaster Artist stars both James and Dave Franco among many other comedic talents. It is based on the true story of Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) an aspiring film actor who meets the weird and mysterious Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) in an acting class where they form a unique friendship and decide to move to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams. That's the story in a nutshell and what a story this is. James Franco is superb as Wiseau. Having just got nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance I would have to agree and really hope he walks away with the trophy come award season. He's funny, bizarre, cute and at times serious. Dave Franco also plays his part really well. His character being the complete opposite to that of James's and they share a really nice chemistry together (being real life brothers helps) as production begins on the movie that Wiseau himself writes he assembles a huge cast and crew and it begins. There is a lot of comedic moments peppered throug

Arrow 6x9 : Irreconcilable Differences review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in t his review. With that being said let's get into it. Arrow's mid season finale has come and gone and while it wasn't a bad episode by any means but compared to the rest of the CW shows this week it was definitely the weakest.  Onto the episode now and it begins with a wedding reception for Oliver and Felicity who turns who fashionably late with her parents in tow. I don't ever remember seeing or hearing about her parents reconnecting but it seems they have. Oliver and Felicity share their first kiss first dance and enjoy the evening with all their closest friends. But not before Quentin Lance gets a phone call and tells Oliver that there is someone on the team who is willing to testify against him that he is indeed the Green Arrow. The team member is revealed later in the episode and it turns out to be Rene. He tells the team he was put in a no win situation as the FBI really put him under their microscope so to spe

Gotham 4x11 : Queen takes knight review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Gotham's fall finale has come and gone and it left us with one heck of an episode. The episode begins as see the GCPD raiding all sorts of places to find the PYG or as we now know him as Lazo Valentine. Gordon who is now in full on captain mode complete with the comic like trench coat manages to find a body but it's not Lazo as he has gone and gotten himself a brand new face or at least that is what Jim thinks. More on Lazo Valentine later.  Onto Sofia now and as her and Sirens attempt to confront Penguin she goes back to her place where Carmine Falcone is waiting. Yes! her father is back in Gotham after Penguin calls him to inform him of his daughter. Falcone tells her that he is very disappointed in her and if he didn't come she would be dead soon enough. He actually slaps her right across the face as Penguin ever the showman gloats in the background to the Sir

Legends Of Tomorrow 3x9 : Beebo the god of war review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Legends Of Tomorrow's mid season finale has come and gone and with it we got the most bizarre and entertaining episode to date this season. The episode begins as a young Martin Stein in Central City in 1992 attempts to get that year's must have christmas toy for her daughter Lily. He acquires it in hilarious fashion of course and as he got the last one in the shop all other parents begin to chase him throughout the store. While running he somehow manages to time jump to Barbarian time and he is captured. More on Stein later. Back on the waverider and Snart from last week's episode is trying his best to help the rest of the legends cope with the loss of Martin Stein (present day Stein) in somewhat hilarious detail. This version of Leonard Snart is quickly becoming one of my favorites on this show and it honestly sucks that Wentworth Miller will soon be leaving the

The Flash 4x9 : Don't run review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. The Flash's mid season finale has come and gone and with it came a showdown between The Flash and The Thinker.  The episode begins as Barry and Iris are in their apartment going through gifts that people had sent them last for their wedding they even get one from Oliver and Felicity and this is where the episode starts off on a seriously low note. Iris is still being petty over what happened when Oliver and Felicity took the spotlight on her and Barry's big day. That was a real low blow by the writers of the show and honestly I expected better. Women should be building one another up not tearing each other down. Iris questions Barry about why he hasn't been using his powers as of late to which he replies with why use them to run when he can just stay with her always. These two work so well as a couple getting along rather then when they bicker and fight.  Later a

Supergirl 3x9 : Reign review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Supergirl's midseason finale has come and gone and with it came Reign the world killer who much like Kara also escaped a dying Krypton.  The episode begins as Reign (Samantha) awakes from nightmares as her daughter rushes to see if her mom is okay she tells her that she wasn't on any trip like she said in episode 7 and she was here all along. Ruby her daughter is oblivious to what is going on of course as her mom is slowly but surely becoming the world killer who will bring destruction to all who stand in her path. Back at the DEO and as Kara, Jon, Alex, Winn, Mon-El and Imra all take together a few funny lines are shared. Winn questions about the 31st century's technology to which Imra replies with what is a phone?, we also learn more of Mon-El and his time in the future. He says he used Kara as a sort of beacon to bring hope and light to recruit a legion of super

Wonder review

Image
Based on the New York Times bestseller Wonder tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade attending a mainstream school for the very first time. Jacob Tremblay stars as August (Auggie) Pullman and once again shows how much of a charming actor he really is. He perfectly captures the spirit and character of Auggie and his performance is faultless. He really makes you feel for him as it shows just how cruel some people really can be. Bullying is a major issue in the world and this really put it in the spotlight. Julia Roberts is also really good here, it's so good to see her back on the big screen again and she knocks it out of the park as Auggie's mom. Owen Wilson is the comedic relief playing Auggie's dad and while he is just there mainly for some funny jokes he really is essential in the whole story and his character plays perfectly with Julia Robert's always caring mother. There is

Gotham 4x10 : Things that go boom review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Gotham returns after a week away and boy does it come back in style. It begins as we see the new inmate of Arkham Asylum Professor PYG begin to play some opera music inside the Asylum which upsets some of his fellow inmates. One punches him and his face sort of shits and morphs and he doesn't feel the pain. As he fixes his face he murders the guy who punched him with a record and is placed into a cell all on his own. This was a pretty cool start and later while he is in his new cell Captain Gordon pays him a visit to try and really figure out just who he is after Lucius had shown him x-rays earlier that were not quite right. As Gordon tells the PYG that Gotham has already forgotten about him as he has no staying power like Jerome Penguin and others he snaps and a southern accent slips through which catches Gordon a bit off guard. The whole exchange between the PYG and Gordon
