The Shape Of Water review

Image
I've always been a big admirer of Guillermo Del Toro. He has given us many wonderful and exotic experiences over the years and with this movie he might have just given us his masterpiece. The story follows a janitor named Eliza played by Sally Hawkins. A mute woman who finds herself sharing an apartment with an older gentleman named Giles played by Richard Jenkins. Eliza lives a pretty boring life as we're shown at the beginning. She gets up has her breakfast does various other things and leaves to go to work only to repeat the process the next day. But one day at the facility where she works a new 'experiment' turns up complete with a new form of security detail the main officer played by Michael Shannon. Eliza takes a shine to the creature after she is called into the aquarium like room to clean it up after a freak accident involving the creature and Shannon's character. That's the story in a nutshell but it is explored and developed in a way that I've

The Flash 4x14 : Subject 9 review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it The Flash returns from it's 3 week break with another enjoyable entry into what has been an interesting season to say the least.  The episode begins as Barry makes his way back into CCPD only for Captain Singh to tell him that he has been asked to take a leave of absence with immediate effect as some people don't believe that Clifford Devoe is actually alive and well. So Barry leaves his position in CCPD.  Back at Star Labs and the team talk about the remaining 4 meta's only for Ralph to find a CD with the name Izzy Bowan on it. Cisco uses his powers and locates Izzy playing songs from her forthcoming album at a country western bar. So Barry and Ralph go to talk with her but as expected things don't go according to plan and Devoe who is still in Hazard's body shows up only to actually be weakened by Izzy Bowan's powers. It's learned that she as the p

Legends Of Tomorrow 3x12 : The Curse Of The Earth Totem review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it After last weeks brilliant episode it was always going to be hard to follow it up this week but with that being said this week's episode is still an enjoyable venture into pirate times and beyond. The episode begins as right away we're brought into 1717 Bahamas where we see Captain Blackbeard and his crew on the search for some treasure. While his crew dig up the soil he offers his female companion a green shaped emerald. This causes a curse to come over her and this leads to the destruction of the crew but Blackbeard manages to escape. More on this situation later. Back on the waverider and as Ray and Nate try to come up with ways to obtain the remaining totems Ray says that Vixen's granddaughter has one of them that is being held by a man obsessed with researching it. Mick enters and says that Sara is going to Star City present day as she has a date with Ava (Agen

Lady Bird review

Image
I've always believed that movies are at their best when they are simple in not only the tone characters and setting but in it's story and Lady Bird has all those in spades.Written and directed by Greta Gerwig Ladybird tells the story of an artistically inclined 17 year old girl (Saoirse Ronan) living in Sacramento California. As I said the premise is pretty simple and that is why this movie shines. Saoirse Ronan once again proves she is a really talented actress almost lighting up the screen whenever she appears. She's funny charming and so easy to connect with as a character. Speaking of her character the journey that she goes on throughout the movie is also really good and all credit must go to not only Saoirse Ronan but Greta Gerwig who has crafted a really beautiful movie. Not only is this a journey for Ladybird but also for her family as her father falls on difficult times it's up to her mother to provide for the family and the relationship she and her daught

Legends Of Tomorrow 3x11 : Here I Go Again

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it This show does it again. It gives us another amazing episode filled with plenty of hilarious moments and one or two nice little life lessons. The episode begins normal enough as Zari is working on a new simulation  programme for the waverider and as she installs it Gideon crashes. This is when the legends return to the bridge all dressed in Disco getup. This is where the episode really begins though as Zari and Sara argue over Zari not doing her job right and Ray who says later that he is afraid of Sara butts in only to be knocked out by Sara which was just hilarious. As Zari leaves in anger she goes to the engine room only to kick start an explosion that blows up the waverider killing everybody on board or has it? we're brought right back to the moment just a few moments earlier where Sara and Zari argue more and this leads to Zari finding out that she is stuck in a never en

Black Panther review

Image
Marvel Studio's latest entry into the MCU brings us Black Panther. This movie is at it's best during it's many varied and compelling actions sequences and at it's worst during it's proposed 'comedic' moments which while some are funny others didn't even fail to raise a grin on my face. The story begins pretty much after Captain America Civil War, Wakanda a supposed war torn country's king has fallen and now it falls to his son Prince T-challa to rise up and claim the thrown and the gift of the Black Panther that's pretty much the story and while it's filled with one or two plot twists that are a bit predictable aside from one really big plot twist that had me going like huh? well that certainly makes things more interesting it is still an enjoyable watch and certainly one of the most unique MCU movies to date especially in it's scenery which at times is absolutely spectacular. Chadwick Boseman is really good as the lead and carries t

Legends Of Tomorrow 3x10 : Daddy Darhkest

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it Finally Legends Of Tomorrow has returned and what an episode to come back on. It was a whole lot of fun as per usual but also peppered with some really cool scenes thanks to the inclusion of John Constantine. Speaking of Constantine. The episode begins as we see him in Star City 2017 entering an asylum for the insane. As he goes further into the building he finds a little girl in a room all by herself and withing minutes she is taken completely over by a demon who apparently knows Sara Lance and said demon is also after her. It's later revealed that this demon is in fact Mallus and he aims to take complete control over this little girl who in fact is actually Nora Darhk who has been taken into custody after her father was killed by the Green Arrow in 2017 (as we saw at the end of Arrow season 4) more on Mallus later. But the real highlight of this episode has to be John C

Arrow 6x13 : The Devil's Greatest Trick review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it Another week and another very solid episode of Arrow. This week's episode begins as Oliver and Dig are infiltrating one of Cayden James's warehouses only for him to appear on multiple screens throughout the room warning them of his imminent bomb threat.   The episode really gets underway as we're treated to some flashbacks to 18 months before present day as Cayden who was working with Helix at the time struggles to balance his work life which as he says is top secret and his personal life more importantly his relationship with his 18 year old son. His son plays basketball for his team at school and Cayden keeps missing the games due to his heavy work load. His son tells him that he can't choose to keep his work life private from him to which Cayden agrees and he tells his son he will definitely attend his next game to which he does but while outside looking in t

The Flash 4x13 : True Colors review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it After the highs of last week's episode of The Flash it was always going to come crashing down but while it does do so it still manages to be quite the entertaining episode filled with many twists and turns. The episode begins as the Warden accompanies Amunet into a secret meta wing of Iron Heights one that is totally off the books. It is here that we're re-introduced to all the meta humans from this season. Killgor, Dwarf Star, Black Bison, Hazard and Barry. The warden and Amunet discuss the plan of their deal and arrange for it to happen at midnight. Back at the actual prison ward itself and as Iris and Cecil arrive to visit Barry the warden tells them that he was in a scuffle and won't be able to talk with them for a week. Cecil reads the warden's mind and finds out what is really going on. He is selling meta humans to Amunet who then also sells them to the hi

Supergirl 3x13 : Both Sides Now review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it This week's episode begins practically from the end of last weeks as Supergirl Alex and the rest of the DEO go to try and apprehend this new World Killer Julia Freeman. As they all enter her house with Winn outside providing backup Supergirl walks up to Julia only for her whole demeanor to change in an instant complete with whited out eyes. She unleashes a sonic scream on everyone in her way. A sonic scream much like Laurel and Dinah's from Arrow. This wipes out all DEO agents but Supergirl manages to freeze over the room that Julia is in leaving Jon to faze through it and apprehend Julia. Back at the DEO we are introduced to this new World Killer..Purity! Supergirl hopeful as ever though is convinced that Julia is still in there much to the dismay of Alex. This causes the sisters to bicker and argue throughout the episode. I love how Kara is always so hopeful even when

Arrow 6x12 : All For Nothing review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it This week's episode begins as Oliver Dinah and Quentin along with other members of the SCPD are on the shoreline after Oliver asks for Argus's help in tracking and ultimately taking down Cayden James and his crew. Things don't go as planned of course as a number of deep sea divers are electrocuted through their communications by Cayden killing them in the process. This opening seemed kind of out of place at least to me but trust me everything else about this episode is really really good.   Back in his office and we learn that Cayden James has already gotten 70 million dollars from Oliver which has already almost left the city bankrupt. This causes Thea to try and get some more money out of congress and other political members all while also helping Quentin with his Laurel problem. Yes Black Siren is now apparently following Lance this causes Lance and Thea to trick L
