Late Night with the Devil review

Image
After an almost 4 month wait horror has finally gotten it's foot on the gas in 2024 and what a way to do so with Late night with the Devil. Starring the severly underrated David Dastmalchain the story of Late Night with the Devil proclaims itself a found footage horror experience unlike any other. Dastmalchain plays Jack Delroy the host of a midnight talk / variety show named Night Owls. On the night of Halloween 1977 things take a sinister turn as he and a number of guests begin to try and communicate with Satan himself. First off this movie is wonderfully set up with an opening manifesto of Jack Delroy's life. He is married, a successful TV show host who aspires to be the best but he is into some rather seedy endeavors in his spare time which play a part in the ending and commupence of it's characters.  Presenting itself as a found footage horror in a sense Late Night with the Devil builds the tension in the room ever so slowly leading up to it's bewildering almost

Immaculate review

Image
I was lucky enough to see this movie a week before official release. Immaculate stars new mega-star Sydney Sweeney and after the huge success of Anyone But You has she two genre hits on her hand?? the story of Immaculate isn't anything new or truly original. It follows Sister Cecelia (Sydney Sweeney) who after the closure of her parish moves to Italy to move into a new parish that is very strict and ruled over by an almost iron fist. Struggling to learn Italian to begin things soon take a dark turn and maybe all is not as it seems as bizarre things begin to happen around the convent but all nowhere near as important as Sweeney's character being with child as it is declared a miracle by all. Sydney Sweeney is great here, you really feel for her. Her sheer panic and fear of what is happening around her is genuinely believable. She carries the movie and without her there wouldn't be very much here at all to be honest. It's full of cheap jumpscares, silent moments leading

Drive Away Dolls review

Image
A story about two girls going south proclaims Drive Away Dolls and in more ways than one it is definitely that. From Director Ethan Coen comes a wildly chaotic and sexual charged road trip unlike any other. Starring Margaret Qualley and Gearaldine Viswanathan as two polar opposite friends who take a road trip together to escape their everyday mundane lives. What they don't know however is that the car that they hire out is actually carrying a very sought after briefcase that puts them in serious danger with some very bad people.  Right off the bat Drive Away Dolls is raunchy, Margaret Qualley's performance as Jamie is so sexy and wild it's endearing to watch. She lights up the screen with her presense and her voice that is so lush to listen to. Her best friend Marian played by Geraldine Visawanathan couldn't be anymore different to Jamie and it shows in everything from how they dress to how they interact with the opposite sex. Their chemistry is palpable and so much f

Imaginary review

Image
You'd think with a title like Imaginary this horror movie would be full of creative scares and wonderfully tense moments. Well you'd mistaken as Imaginary is one of the most boringly dull movies I've seen in quite some time. From the get go it just isn't scary and it takes so long to really get to the point that when it does the movie is over 15 mins later. The story follows a family who move into the step-mom's old fmaily home. Trying to begin a relationship with her new step daughters but failing things take a sisniter turn when stuff begins to happen without explination around the house all culminating in a battle for survival from a demonic like entity that prays on children's creativity and longing for companionship.  Coming from Blumhouse you'd expect Imaginary to be somewhat decent but then you realize that this is from the director of Truth or Dare AND Fantasy Island and right away it's evident that this is not going to be pretty. And while it

Lisa Frankenstein review

Image
I love anything Gothic. Tbe Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline are some of my favorite movies of all time. With that being said when I first saw the trailer for Lisa Frankenstein I was instantly sucked in from it's visual prowess and undeniably gothic look and feel of it. But just what is Lisa Frankenstein about?? well in a nutshell it's a love story probably unlike any you'll see this year. The movie follows a missunderstood teenager who after her mother is killed right in front of her is forced off to live with a new step-mom after her dad re-marries. This teenager is played wonderfully by Katheryn Newton who is equal parts cooky and wildly likable. At school she is pretty much a loner apart from her best friend, at home her new step-mom isn't exactly a big fan of her and is always threatening to have her put into a mental asylum.  Her life changes forever as one night during a storm she stumbles into a haunted grave where previously she had been taking care of
