Smile review

Image
I was lucky enough to see Smile a couple of days before official release and boy oh boy what a trip this movie is. Smile is a psychological horror much in the same vain as say something like The Ring or It Follows but Smile is on another level entirely thanks to an incredible performance from lead actress Sosie Bacon who fully commits to the role on all levels. Smile follows a Psychiatry Doctor named Rose Cotter who after witnessing a patient kill herself in front of her begins to experience truly horrible situations that nobody but her can see which leads to everyone thinking she has completely lost her mind.  Smile is a masterfully made horror movie filled to the brim with jumpscares, bait and switch moments and plenty of tension. It has a great pace for the most part as Rose Cotter's seemingly perfect life goes from bad to worse to complete torture. It's obvious from the get go that Smile is a lot more to do with mental illness and it is a great very effective metaphor for

Don't Worry Darling review

Unfortunately sparked by drama behind the scenes Don't Worry Darling has a lot to live up to given all that has happened in post production. Will it succeed? what starts off as a visually pleasing trip back in time it's not long before things take a dark and sinister turn in Don't Worry Darling. Set in the 1950s a couple named Alice and Jack live a seemingly perfect life that any American citizen would love to have. Jack goes off to work every morning like every other man in the community while Alice and all the other wives stay at home and take care of their homes until the husband comes home. Each day is the same thing that is until Alice stumbles across something that she shouldn't have and her world and sense of reality begins to completely crumble. Don't Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as Alice and Jack and performance wise Pugh steals the entire movie here with a stellar performance from beginning to end. Harry Styles on the other hand jus

Stargirl 3x4 : Frenemies - Chapter four : The Evidence review

Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. This weeks episode of Stargirl begins with Cameron whom we see still practicing his powers. We see a lot of snow globes in a room with one snow globe including what looks to be a small figure of Courtney inside. Once shaken it does the usual snow globe stuff but emits a light. Cameron breaths ice onto the snow globe leading to it completely being frozen over so much that it hurts his hand and it falls to the ground before smashing into tiny pieces. He's still very much learning to balance his powers and it shows. At the end of last weeks episode we saw Starman get attacked by a mysterious figure / creature, the same who killed The Gambler. Well this week we see Courtney in bed asleep. She is awoken by the Cosmic Staff who literally whisks her out of her bed and flies her into the night sky all the way to the scene of the crime where Courtney finds Starman.  At ho

Stargirl 3x3 : Frenemies - Chapter Three : The Blackmail review

Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Another week and another great episode of Stargirl. This weeks episode opens up with Sylvester who we see attempting to live a somewhat normal life in Blue Valley. We see him getting coffee before heading inside of the diner. Inside he orders breakfast and begins talking to Yolanda who is at work there. He tells her that she is very much like Ted Grant (original Wildcat) as a person and that he would've liked her. He also mentions how he is all about finding balance now as he needs to find a purpose for when he isn't Starman. This of course is all coming from Courtney who still sees Starman as a like a father figure to her. We're soon with the Whitmore family and after Courtney cooks breakfast for the entire family they get interrupted by The Crocks who come into the house with their own more healthy breakfast. The Crocks relationship with the Whitmore fa

Stargirl 3x2 : Frenemies - Chapter two : The Suspects review

Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. After what was a great premiere episode last week can this weeks episode of Stargirl build upon it's base?? the episode opens up twelve hours before the death of The Gambler. We see him arrive at his trailer unpacking, ironing some shirts and just living a normal life. A car is soon seen pulling up outside his trailer and it's none other than Crusher (Sportsmaster) it's easy to see here that they're setting up multiple suspects especially when once Crusher loses his nerve and leaves The Shade shows up to confront The Gambler. It's all simple story telling but really effective in my opinion. We're soon back with the JSA whom after finding out about The Gambler having a meeting, everyone is present except Cindy who is off doing her own secretive work which I'll talk about later. The meeting is pretty short but it's evident that pretty mu

Stargirl 3x1 : Frenemies - Chapter One : The Murder review

Be warned there will be SP OILERS* inv olved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. The third season of Stargirl has finally arrived. Last time we saw this show the JSA had defeated Eclipso with a little help from their enemies. This of course all ties into the core aspect of season 3 which is the JSA learning to live and work with their former enemies. Not only does this mean new neighbors The Crock Family but also The Shade who is also living in Blue Valley. The episode opens up with various members of the JSA going about their day to day lives. Courtney has been on a trip with her family to Yellowstone while Beth's parents have become a bit overbearing when it comes to her newfound superhero status. As for Yolanda she is mainly keeping her head down but is overcome with anger whenever she sees Cindy and is all tensed up when they all meet for their first JSA meeting involving Cindy a bit later. Speaking of Cindy she tries to do minimal tasks
