Top 5 favorite movies of 2017
1) La La Land. : Where to even begin with this? one of the first movies I saw this year and right away it left such a big impact and was in the running for my favorite movie this year. Everything about it is just perfect and memorable from it's characters to it's musical numbers which are just amazing to even the ending which really ended on a somber note but personally it was the perfect ending at least for me. This should have won the best picture at the Academy Awards, no offense to Moonlight but this was far superior. I love La La Land so much and still find myself going back to watch and listen to it's soundtrack every now and again and that is why it's my favorite movie of the year.
2 ) Baby Driver : Edgar Wright's masterpiece was something that came out of left field as far as I was concerned. I always knew Edge Wright was talented Scott Pilgrim and Shaun Of The Dead come to mind but I think this tops them all. It's fast pace and quirky dialogue not to mention some seriously strong characters really make it a movie experience that you need to see. The performances are also effortless and the soundtrack just tops it all off. You'd be hard up to find a better movie this year.
3 ) The Disaster Artist : Having only come out a few weeks ago I didn't know whether to include The Disaster Artist but having thought it over I really have to put it in here. James Franco really shows his talent in this and he is backed by a stellar cast including his brother Dave Franco and Seth Rogen among others. It isn't as funny as you'd expect either which was nice to see given the cast and it leaves it's audience with some really nice little life lessons. This is a unique movie to say the least that you really should be checking out sometime in the future.
4 ) The Lego Batman movie : I can already hear people The Lego Batman movie? really? and the answer to that is yes! The Lego Batman movie is one of the most fun experiences I had in cinemas this year. It's funny quirky and just a good time for all the family. Done in the unique Lego style it showcases Batman in a way that has never been seen before and probably won't be seen again. The voice acting is all stellar and the action set pieces along with the story are all memorable. A must see for any Batman fan.
5 ) Atomic Blonde : With Atomic Blonde you have one of the most thrilling action filled movies of the year. Charlize Theron really knocked it out of the park with her performance and some of the scenes are down right brutal at times while others like the scene with Sofia Boutella are just plain HOT. If you like your action movies a bit on the dark side with some really good performances than this is really something you should be checking out.
Honorable mentions :
Get Out - Having only seen this very recently rather than it's original release I was dumbfounded to find an absolute gem of a movie. Get Out is unique in so many ways and something you need to watch to truly understand.
Ingrid Goes West - A movie that slipped under so many people's radar I'd imagine. Ingrid Goes West stars Aubrey Plaza in what was a seriously amazing piece of cinema. Social media and what it can do to people was the main focus and it just really worked. The performances are faultless and the whole movie is something that you really should go out of your way to see.
Blade Runner 2049 - A follow up to the original classic Blade Runner 2049 stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford and it is just brilliant. Just shy of being 3 hours long it is absolute epic and a worthy follow up to the original. Go watch this now!
Happy Death Day - This was a fun movie going experience. A horror / slasher movie unlike any other I've ever seen. Happy Death Day was thrilling quirky and a whole lot of fun. The cast looked like they were having a blast and it really showed in their performances especially the lead. I really can't wait to pick this up when it comes out on Blu-Ray and re watch it all over again.
Battle Of The Sexes - Released pretty late this year this movie was a blast to watch. Backed by some really good performances from Emma Stone and Steve Carrell it shows that women can be just as good if not better at sport than men and it is something that is very relevant in today's society. Be sure to check this one out sometime in the future.
Beauty And The Beast - I sure do love my musicals. Beauty And The Beast is a live action retelling of the animated classic from Disney. It stars Emma Watson as Belle and she really is perfect as Belle fitting the majority of her characteristics. Dan Stevens is the Beast complete with dodgy CGI at times which can be distracting but his performance is overall good. Add in Ewan McGregor Ian McKellen Emma Thompson and many more and you have a really magical movie going experience. The songs are all catchy and I bet you'll find yourself going back to the soundtrack every now and again as it really is sublime. A perfect watch for all the family especially during the holiday season.
