On the Basis of sex review

Image
Based on a true story we're introduced to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A smart as a whip woman who back in the 1950's was apart of a group of women accepted into Harvard to practice law. She is married to Martin Ginsburg who is always a lawyer in training. Together they form a strong unit and overtime after taking on a case she managed to change the way the US looked and handled discrimination laws. Felicity Jones is on top form here as Ruth Ginsburg. She's strong but timid, fierce but soft. Strongly independent and and sharp minded the movie focuses it's first act mainly on her working her way through law school to ultimately becoming a professor and teaching the things that she wanted to change. Armie Hammer is good here too, being the rock that Jones's Ruth can lay on when times get tough. He is the main source of comedic relief here and it works really well. The dialogue is great too with big and exaggerated words that wouldn't work in any other movie like this

Gotham 5x7 : Ace Chemicals review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Batman & The Joker. Two of the most iconic characters in any form of media. Add in Ace Chemicals and you've entered the origins of  The Joker and the toll it takes on one Bruce Wayne's life. That is what this week's episode of Gotham is all about. It begins inside a building where we see men run out with their shirts ripped open. On their chests appears to be Z marks cut across them. Inside the building we see a man in a suit launch fireworks into the air. But these aren't any ordinary fireworks oh no. They are Jeremiah based chemical fireworks that upon exploding in the air render all below them dead within seconds. The next morning Gordon gets a call about what happened and we see in more detail the Z mark on the men's chests. Turns out the victims were a group from the Narrows so Jim thinks it's a good idea to go see Lee and ask her. At the hospita

Supergirl 4x12 : Menagerie review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Supergirl returns after it's little break with an interesting episode to say the least. It begins at night as we see a couple whom after attempting a jewelry heist are attempting to get away in their car. All of a sudden a meteor comes blasting out of the sky and lands in an open area just missing the car. The guy gets jammed in the car while the girl goes to investigate what is in the crash site. What is there is an Alien Symbiote who merges with the woman. At John's office we see him Kara and Alex together. Alex who still seems off about something and even mentions how much she feels like she's failed at her personal life as of late. She barely dates anymore, put her adoption plan on hold and focuses solely on being the DEO's director. Kara and Alex's relationship has been so intriguing to watch as of late as it's been completely flipped which really ha

Gotham 5x6 : 13 Stitches review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. They've finally done it. Gotham after 5 weeks of okay to just plain bad episodes delivers it's best episode this season and for my money one of it's best episodes period. It begins pretty much from where the last ended as we see Gordon running throughout the streets with Nygma hot on his tail. Nygma tells him that there is no use in running and gets a shot off on Gordon who evades him to go inside a medical vehicle to look for supplies. Ed eventually goes inside too and the two battle it out for a few seconds. Gordon beats Nygma by charging up a heart machine thus frying Ed's head knocking him out. Back at the GCPD we see Bruce who is joined by Alfred. Alfred notices the tattoo / motto on the arms of the various soldiers a part of Eduardo's gang that have completely taken over the GCPD. Alfred tells Bruce that they are bad news and after Bruce questions the s

Happy Death Day 2U review

Image
I really liked the first Happy Death Day. At first when it's sequel was announced I was skeptical to say the least. I didn't know or think how they'd even make a sequel given how the original ended. But boy oh boy have they come up with a sequel. Returning character Tree who again is played by the wonderful Jessica Rothe finds herself reliving the same day over and over again. But this time it's not only her the baby faced killer is after it's everybody she knows. The cause of this is Tree's boyfriend's friend who after creating a new invention with his lab partners opens a loop in time. Yes this sequel is going full on Back To The Future with time travel esque moments and different dimensions. The multiverse theory even gets mentioned..third movie perhaps?? The first movie at the time was an absolute blast to be had. Sure it wasn't perfect by any means but it never took itself too seriously. That trend continues here with just enough content flippe

The Flash 5x14 : Cause and XS review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. This week's episode of The Flash is centered around Nora West Allen and her struggle to keep all her friends alive as Barry heads into the speedforce to help speed up the meta human cure. It begins as we see Cisco doing more work on the meta human cure at Caitlin's father's lab. He eventually comes up with a 100% success rate and develops the cure but there is one drawback. It will take 28-29 days for the cure to fully develop and be used. Team Flash can't wait that long says Barry as after Iris's run in with Cicada last week he is sure that the big bad will show up again. So after Sherloque mentions how the speedforce will more than likely speed up the duration of the cure working Barry runs out of shot and essentially isn't in the rest of the episode until the very end. Cisco who after last week got that bartender lady's number has a date at Jitters

How To Train Your Dragon : The Hidden World review

Image
The third and final installment of the How To Train Your Dragon franchise has arrived. But is it a good way to say goodbye to Hiccup and Toothless?? How To Train Your Dragon : The Hidden World is a glorious and vast way to close the franchise and tie it up with a nice neat bow. We start off with Hiccup and co who are now tasked with going out into the world to rescue locked up dragons that are to be killed. They eventually learn of a feared dragon killer that has killed every single Nightfury in existence. So it's up to Hiccup and everyone else to stop him. It's a simple story but it works pretty well. Along for the ride is all the characters from the previous 2 movies and more. Both Hiccup and Toothless end up getting some really good character development here throughout as both ultimately end up with the love of their lives. The first two movies were really special and to be honest this is no different. Toothless is as lovable as ever. And the new Nightfury dragon that

Arrow 7x13 : Star City Slayer review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. Another week and once again another really good episode of Arrow. It begins as we see a man from the back who is looking at a board. On this board is all vigilantes in Star City. So Dinah, Laurel, Dig, Rene even Curtis. All receive notes of various intended threats and begin fearing for the worst. Back at Oliver's apartment which now includes a voice whenever someone enters through the door William who after last week we learned got expelled from boarding school is still not right and clashes with Felicity and Oliver throughout. This all comes to a head as William's grand parents show up and say that they want to get full legal guardianship of their grandson. Oliver is against this of course and tries to explain the situation. Things don't however look good for him as he has been in prison, he has been touted as the Green Arrow and within days of getting him back Wil

The Flash 5x13 : Goldfaced review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. This week's episode of The Flash begins with Sherloque Wells who is still attempting to find out who Nora West Allen is working with. Nora seems increasingly frustrated by this and goes to the future to ask Eobard Thawne for help. He knows of Sherloque Wells and says that his weakness is his love life. If Nora was to push him into a situation where he meets someone new then all his attention would be on that person and not the goings on of Nora and Eobard. So off Nora goes as she and her go to Jitters to get some tea / coffee. At Jitters Nora surveys the situation and manages to make it so that someone spills coffee which leads to a lady slipping on the coffee only for Sherloque to catch her in the air. Impressed by this the woman thanks Sherloque and they get to talking. Almost right away clicking things take a creepy turn when he mentions what she does for a living and how

Green Book review

Image
Inspired by true events Green Book tells the extraordinary tale of two men from two completely different cultures and backgrounds coming together to form a bond and friendship unlike anything else. On one hand you have Tony Lip a straight talking bulls****er from The Bronx in New York. On the other you have Dr Don Shirley a classically trained pianist. They couldn't be any more polar opposites but as the movie goes on the relationship that blooms between them is really something to witness unfold. Of course it's all brought to life by 2 incredible performances. First off is Viggo Mortensen who puts in a career best performance as Tony Lip in my opinion. He's a talker, a brawler but a big softy at heart. Mahershala Ali who plays Dr Don Shirley who is part of a trio of musicians. A trio who task Tony with bringing them around the deep south which in turn leads to fun times, some scary moments and true heartfelt scenes. Like I just said Viggo Mortensen is incredibly good

Arrow 7x12 : Emerald Archer review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. 150 episodes of Arrow. Quite the accomplishment in TV making. This episode is almost like a celebration of sorts as we get various throwbacks from season's 1-7. It begins with none other than Quentin Lance speaking in 2014. He's speaking about Vigilante's before it cuts to various other familiar faces. Including Sara Lance Barry Allen, Diaz and others. It's all done in a documentary style as a crew follows Oliver around with a camera. Documenting his every move including even private family moments it's all incredibly interesting and honestly a refreshing take on an episode of Arrow. William returns to home from his time at boarding school and seems incredibly angry almost the moment he steps in the door. It's later revealed that he got expelled from the boarding school and fake his test results online to make Felicity think she was doing good. This is ju

Gotham 5x5 : Pena Dura review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it. After last week's average at best episode of Gotham this week's episode a big improvement. It begins as we see Gordon & Bullock running up the lead that Barbara had given Jim at the end of last week's episode. The lead turns out to be solid as Gordon and Bullock find the guy who sold the RPG that led to the destruction of Haven a few weeks back. The guy stands his ground against the two cops however and with Gordon and Bullock looking outgunned help arrives with the aid of a Delta Force led by Gordon's old army buddy Eduardo. Back at the GCPD and Eduardo tells Jim of the mission to completely rid Gotham of it's criminal scum. Gordon finds a list from the seller of the RPG and low and behold Edward Nygma's name is on there leading to a city wide chase of Ed throughout the episode by not only Gordon and Eduardo but pretty much everyone else in the city.
