Top 5 favorite movies of 2019

Image
1) - Joker : Was there ever any doubt?? Joaquin Phoenix's performance and transformation from Arthur Fleck to the iconic Joker was something for the ages. Not only did Joker become the highest grossing R rated movie of all time it is one of the finest comic book movies period. If you still haven't see this what are you even doing?? it's an unmissable cinematic masterpiece and that is why it's my favorite movie of 2019. 2) - Booksmart : Olivia Wilde's directorial debut and to be honest she totally knocked this one out of the park. Booksmart was a movie about two academic students who upon the eve of their graduation realized that they didn't truly live it up. It's brilliantly written, hilarious and features two incredibly strong leads in Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. Booksmart is a coming of age movie done right as it ticks almost every single box. A must see. 3) - Ad Astra : Featuring a career best performance from Brad Pitt in my opinion Ad As

Playing With Fire review

Image
On paper Playing With Fire is a pretty basic movie in terms of plot. A group of Smoke Jumpers (lower class version of Firefighters) are tasked with looking after 3 kids after they rescue them from a burning cabin. What follows is ups, downs and a lot of fun as while the plot is simple it works in a lot of places and once the credits roll it's message is well and truly received. John Cena stars as Jake Carson a Superintendent of a group of Smoke Jumpers who are called in to help fires all across the country. He's a strict albeit soft man who lost both his parents at a young age. His father was also a Smoke Jumper and died while on duty. Carson's entire life evolves around being a Smoke Jumper with his ultimate goal of becoming Chief in command. Everything changes however when him and his crew are tasked with looking after 3 kids for a night as while their parents were away they somehow burned down the cabin they were staying in which led to them being rescued. It's in

Little Women review

Image
Based on the bestselling novel Little Women which is written and directed by Greta Gerwig tells the story of four sisters coming of age after the American Civil War. Greta Gerwig has assembled quite the cast here which includes, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, Meryl Streep and more. All the cast do a stand up job in a movie that is engaging, powerful and smartly written. Saoirse Ronan is the standout here as she plays Jo March a writer. She is strong, fearless, independent and always fighting for what she believes is right. Florence Pugh who plays Amy March is more of the artsy style of life and she too is amazing here. The rest of the cast do a really good job in bringing to life a story that has been told many times before.  Set after the American Civil War Little Women is stunning to look at visually. Vistas of wide open space occupied by snow, sun and buildings of old flood the screen and it's all breathtaking. The costume design is on point a

Cats review

Image
Based on the world wide known musical of the same name Cats is a musical unlike anything you'll not only see in 2019 but for quite some time. With a star studded cast including Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson and newcomer Francesca Hayward. Cats tells the story of a tribe of Cats called the Jellices who every year decide which member of the tribe will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellice life. The story in itself is pretty basic and loses track of itself far too often to be honest. But really what the main attraction here is the musical numbers feature an abundance of singing, dancing and just general madness.  First off however there is the discussion of the CG fur onto the actors bodies. At the beginning it's quite a lot take in as really we're thrown right into Cats from the start with no real sense of ever slowing down from the get go. It does take some time to adjust to the design of the characters and wo

Star Wars Episode IX : The Rise of Skywalker review

Image
I am and really never was the biggest fan of Star Wars. Sure they are highly entertaining to watch with the original trilogy of episodes 4-6 being far superior but with this final act in the trilogy of trilogies can Star Wars close off a new chapter in style?? the story carries on from The Last Jedi where last we saw our band of hero's going up against Kylo Ren and his forces once more. This movie opens with Ren who goes to an unknown region to seemingly kill Emperor Palpatine who has returned with really no real explanation. The set up is not the greatest way to begin things but it soon gets back on track on board the Millennium Falcon where Po, Finn and Chewie wrap from place to place via warp speed while being chased by forces of the First Order. They eventually lack back at base where we see Princess Leia assessing the situation. Rey is also here trying to become one with the Force one and for all.  I don't want to go into any more plot details incase of spoilers but l

The Flash 6x9 : Crisis on Infinite Earths : Part three review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  Crisis rolls on beginning this time on Earth-203 New Gotham where we see a member of the Birds Of Prey Helena Kyle (The Huntress) running through her city as crimson engulfs the skyline. She shouts out to Oracle on her comms but gets zero response. It's seconds later when the anti matter wave hits killing her and everyone on Earth-203 instantly. Back on the waverider our hero's learn of the final 3 Paragons. One is J'onn, the other Barry and the final one is a man named Ryan Choi who lives in Ivy Town. We also learn that Earth-1 is to be the final Earth destroyed which makes it the place for the final stand against the Anti-Monitor. The entire group again split off into different teams. First off there is Constantine, Mia and Diggle who finally shows up after getting word of Oliver's death. Those 3 go to Earth-666 Los Angeles and run into a familiar face in Luci

Batwoman 1x9 : Crisis on Infinite Earths : Part two review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  Crisis on Infinite Earths continues with a tribute to Oliver Queen by Sara, Kara and Kate to begin the episode. Lyla soon shows up and tells them that they all need to go to the waverider. But not just any waverider, while The Monitor does have a wave of them (pun intended) at his disposal he wants them all to go to Earth-74's version since that is where Lyla says the Legends have all retired. Harbinger goes on ahead and aboard the waverider she meets the ships AI in Leonard which was pretty cool to see. Mick enters the main room of the ship and admits to living there. Everything looks like it's about to come to a head when the rest of the hero's and The Monitor appear. On board the waverider is Harbinger, Kate, Sara, Lois, Clark, baby Jonathan, Barry and The Monitor himself. He speaks of the Book of Destiny and even though Barry and Oliver destroyed it during Els

Supergirl 5x9 : Crisis on Infinite Earths : Part one review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  The Crisis begins...The Monitor begins the first part of five episodes explaining the Multiverse. He mentions how the age of hero's came just in time to help with this giant incoming threat. He also talks about how the multiverse was created and how it's risen, fallen and thrived over many, many years. The Crisis then really begins as we're show a bunch of fun little cameos including Alexander Knox from Batman 1989 complete with him being on Earth 89. The skies around Gotham turn red as he looks up to the Bat-signal and hopes that the big guy is ready. On Earth 9 we're shown Jason Todd and Hawk from the DC Universe Titans show which was really exciting and surprising. A beam of light overcomes them as next up is Earth X which we all know of thanks to the crossover there a few years back. We see The Ray (not Ray Palmer) surveying the city as again the skies dar

Jumanji : The Next Level review

Image
Jumanji returns with a sequel that I felt before seeing it was really unnecessary. The first movie was an enjoyable romp but really nothing truly memorable or game changing (pardon the pun) so it's sequel which promises to take the game to the 'Next Level' can it be not only a good movie in it's own right but a good sequel also?? the set-up here is incredibly basic. In summary Spencer the guy who becomes The Rock's character in the game of Jumanji is at a cross road's in his life. He's going to college in New York doesn't truly know his purpose and his relationship with Martha who later becomes Ruby Roundhouse again is also complicated and seemingly directionless. With a trip home for the holidays planned he sets off home to join his friends for Christmas. Upon arrival home we're introduced to his grandfather Eddie played by Danny Devito and his best friend Mylo played by Danny Glover. Forced to share a room with his grandad who is just after hip

Arrow 8x7 : Purgatory review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  Purgatory. A place between heaven a hell. Or in this case an island where this show began way back in 2012. At the end of last week's episode we saw that Team Arrow was brought to Lian Yu by Lyla who right away gets down to work. They are to build a weapon for The Monitor with no real explanation as to why. William gets to work with what is on the island as the rest is being brought in my airplane by Dinah. Rene and Roy. Of course their plane gets shots down and the material needed for the weapon is scattered. But just who shot it down?? well Oliver splits the group into 2 different teams. One team which is Dig, Lyla and Connor will go look for Rene, Dinah and Roy and the other which is just Oliver and Laurel will go look for the plutonium needed for the weapon. Mia and William stay behind in the tent.  As they go deeper into the island Oliver and Laurel retrieve the

The Flash 6x8 : The Last Temptation Of Barry Allen, Part 2 review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  The mid season of The Flash has come and gone and with it we're treated to a final encounter with Ramsey Rosso (Bloodwork) and the beginning of Crisis..the episode begins where last weeks ended with Star Labs's security going into full lockdown mode which Cisco himself says is something he designed incase The Flash ever went dark and boy has The Flash gone to the dark side. Cisco and Iris remain inside of Star Labs while on the outside Bloodwork's infection is only getting worse and worse as he spreads it throughout Central City leading to Zombie like creatures walking the streets. We see Killer Frost and Joe stuck in between a whole bunch of them as Ramsey gives us a villain speech full of cliches of how he will cleanse the world and make it better. Back at Star Labs and Barry ends up asking Iris to meet him at the place where she said yes. He does so via a cop r

Supergirl 5x8 : The Wrath of Rama Khan review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  The mid season finale of Supergirl has come and gone and with it we got some true redemption for some characters and a peep into what the rest of the season in 2020 could hold. The episode begins outside of Lex's secret bunker which Lena and Hope are inside of. Supergirl shows up and gets targeted by Ion cannons which Lena refuses to stop from firing. Kara gets right back up however and stands her ground mid air. The cannons arm themselves again but this time filled with Kryptonite. We get a great visual of Supergirl in mid air her hands raised to surrender as Lena on the inside quickly rushes to turn off the cannons. She does as Supergirl flys off and returns to the DEO where she tells everyone what Lena did in taking Myriad and that she knows her identity. Rama Khan is then seen returning to Leviathan's HQ. Inside he is warned that he is losing his true potential as

Batwoman 1x8 : A Mad Tea-Party review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.  Batwoman's mid season finale has come and gone and with it we got big reveals, revelations and even had to bid farewell to someone. The episode once again begins with Kate narrating over the opening scene. She says how she has chosen hope over darkness in her ongoing war to clean up Gotham. Next thing we see is Kate who is hunting down another member of the Wonderland Gang. She nabs his coat which he says is vintage before grappling away just as the GCPD arrive. Back at the bat-cave and with Luke's help Kate uses the coat as a way to track down Alice and it is successful. Alice is seen in an abandoned warehouse sorting through clothes. She can't decide on what to wear as Kate walks in and once again pleads with her to stop all of this. Alice refutes and tells her that it was her who stopped the rifle from killing Batwoman as she swapped out the piece of tech for t
