The Flash 4x13 : True Colors review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
After the highs of last week's episode of The Flash it was always going to come crashing down but while it does do so it still manages to be quite the entertaining episode filled with many twists and turns. The episode begins as the Warden accompanies Amunet into a secret meta wing of Iron Heights one that is totally off the books. It is here that we're re-introduced to all the meta humans from this season. Killgor, Dwarf Star, Black Bison, Hazard and Barry. The warden and Amunet discuss the plan of their deal and arrange for it to happen at midnight. Back at the actual prison ward itself and as Iris and Cecil arrive to visit Barry the warden tells them that he was in a scuffle and won't be able to talk with them for a week. Cecil reads the warden's mind and finds out what is really going on. He is selling meta humans to Amunet who then also sells them to the highest bidder. So it's rescue time for Team Flash. But Barry ever the hero has a plan of his own to escape. He manages to trick the security into thinking that the toilet in his cell is all clogged which leads him to steal some batteries and make his escape. More on Barry and the rest of the meta's later.
It is Ralph who is the real star of this episode (as he has been all season in my opinion) he learns a new ability soon after an old friend of his arrives at his office asking him to work with him again to which he refuses telling him that he has new friends now. Back at Star Labs and Ralph manages to morph into his old friend without even noticing. It's Iris Cisco and the others that inform him of this. This leads them to come up with a plan. They want Ralph to transform into the warden and go to the deal with Amunet. Ralph agrees and does go to meet her and this is where the episode is at it's best. Ralph's whole demeanor as the warden is absolutely hilarious as he tries to act and speak like him. When Amunet learns he has arrived she agrees to meet him and obviously the whole plan goes bust pretty much soon after. Ralph literally begins to melt and fall apart as his ears fall from his body and he reverts back to himself. He escapes and returns to Star Labs. Later as Cisco and Caitlin come up with a plan to intervene and help Barry and the others Ralph tells them that he isn't going with them this time. This leads to a rather funny exchange between Ralph and Killer Frost at his office as she threatens him eventually leading him to come around. Back onto Barry now and as him and the other meta's escape from the prison they encounter the warden and security staff waiting for them. This is where everything just hits the fan as Devoe shows up and literally drains everyone of their powers and becomes Hazard completely taking over her body. This actually annoyed me as Hazard had gone through some really good character development before all this went down. So now Devoe is inside Hazard's body which is just an odd visual. Speaking of Devoe back at the court room as Cecil attempts to present some new information Clifford Devoe rolls into the room complete with his wheelchair in tow. This is of course Ralph in disguise which leaves the judge speechless. He agrees that given the new circumstances that Barry Allen be freed from prison and dropped of all charges. So that's how Barry is gets out. Rather simple but an effective way I thought. The episode ends as the whole team celebrates Barry's freedom back at Joe's house only for it to hit them that Devoe only killed the meta's from the bus and nobody else. And who do they know from the bus? well Ralph! and just as they say this Ralph walks in with a serious look on his face. Devoe is definitely going to be after him next when the show returns on February 27th.
This wasn't as good as last week's episode which was to be expected but it was still a very entertaining follow up. I now await the return of Team Flash on the 27th of February.
