The Dead Don't Die review

Image
I've always been a big fan of Zombie movies. Especially when they venture into the more comedic style of things. Written & Directed by Jim Jarmusch, The Dead Don't Die sports a pretty great cast which includes Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Selena Gomez,Chloe Sevigny and more. The Dead Don't Die does venture into both the comedy and horror side of Zombies and just what would happen if the dead did indeed rise from their graves. Part of me does wonder just how the world would react to such an outbreak. Unlikely I know but interesting nevertheless.  The Dead Don't Die follows a small town police force who are all pretty dry and deadpan. Nothing seems to even happy in their little town and the movie itself is incredibly slow paced. But for some reason I fell that it really worked here. The humor is incredibly dark, edgy and on the nose but it's absolutely hilarious at times. The first time Zombie's show up we're treated to two demented undead...

Midsommar review

Image
I really do not know how to start this review if I'm being honest. Midsommar is a lot of things. It's ambitious, disturbing and completely off the rails. Starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and more Midsommar is essentially one big drug like trip. The main story revolves around a girl named Dani who has been struggling with family issues. Her sister who is bipolar goes completely crazy and threatens to end her own life along with her and Dani's parents. Distraught the first 20-30 minutes of the movie show the struggle of Dani's life problems and the impact it's had on her relationship. And it's in these first 20-30 minutes where Midsommar is at it's best. When at a party and the mention of going to Sweden by Dani's boyfriends'd friend for a trip to visit his family and community it is here where the movie just flat out dies. Or at least it did for me.  It is however from this point on that Midsommar is absolutely stunning visually....

Spiderman: Far From Home review

Image
Honesstly I was never the biggest fan of Spiderman: Homecoming, the first Spiderman led movie in the MCU. It felt clunky and wasn't all that funny. Michael Keaton was fantastic however and while Tom Holland did and has impressed as Spider-Man / Peter Parker I was still not fully on board with it all. That is until now..because Spiderman: Far From Home just may very well be the greatest Spiderman movie since Spiderman 2 way back in 2004. Adding in actors like Jake Gyllenhaal to the mix and more this sequel to Homecoming improves on it's older sibling movie in so many different ways. Following on from the end of Avengers: Endgame we see Peter struggling with life. His school is going on a trip to Europe which he feels like is the perfect escape from what has been going on lately. And while all that is fine and dandy a new threat is lurking deep within in the shadows. Peter really can't catch a break can he?? So it's off to Europe and we do get some stunning locations...

Yesterday review

Image
Have you ever wondered just what the world of music would have been like if The Beatles and their legendary music had never been written and produced?? well that's the premise of Yesterday. The new movie written by Richard Curtis and Directed by Danny Boyle. Yesterday is a pretty incredible idea on paper and while it does have some really good moments it also suffers massively from some soul crushing ones too. Starring Himesh Patel as a struggling musician and his manager Ellie played by Lily James. After a freak accident happens and all the electricity in the world goes out for twelve seconds Himesh's character Jack is hit by an oncoming bus as he travels home on his bike. When he wakes up in hospital and after going to visit some friends he seems to be the only one who can remember The Beatles. Like I said Yesterday is an incredibly interesting and ambitious story but it doesn't really take it any further than ''Oh The Beatles never existed'' I honestly ...

Toy Story 4 review

Image
Many people (myself included) view the original Toy Story trilogy as the perfect trilogy. It had everything you could want in a trilogy and more. So when Toy Story 4 was first announced I was quite skeptical to be honest. All the gang are once again back together as Woody and pals who at the end of Toy Story 3 were handed over to a new child named Bonnie have to deal with her latest creation. A spork made literally out of trash as he struggles with his identity. The story is definitely the most weird and bizarre out of all 4 Toy Stories but man is it enjoyable. Pixar have truly hit another home run here as not only is Toy Story another perfection addition into the franchise it is just a joy to watch. It made me feel like I was a kid again which was such an amazing feeling I can't even describe it honestly. All the original voice actors are back too which includes Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. But also along the for the ride this time is Keanu Reeves who voices a motorcycle daredevil...

X-Men: Dark Phoenix review

Image
The X-Men are back once more. This time for the final time on the FOX Studio banner. With the same cast from the previous 3 movies with some fresh faces thrown in for good measure can X-Men: Dark Phoenix close out the franchise in a big grand way?? X-Men: Dark Phoenix starts off with a young Jean Grey who thanks to her powers ends up crashing the car her parents are driving. This kills them both in a freak accident that leaves a young Jean without her mom and dad. Enter Charles Xavier who is again played by James McAvoy. He basically brings her to his school / home for the young and gifted. Years pass and Jean grows up to become a big part of the X-Men team. Their latest mission however seems pretty simple on paper but when it goes horribly wrong and Jean is infused with solar flare energy her life is about to never be the same again.  X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a lot of things. It's an action extravaganza, it's funny (in parts) and it's also emotional. Sophie Turner ret...

Booksmart review

Image
Booksmart is a lot of things. It's heartwarming, hilarious, devastating and emotional all wrapped into one nice package. Directed by Olivia Wilde Booksmart tells the story of two academic students and best friends Amy and and Molly. On the eve of their graduation they realize that they have focused too much on school work and have not lived enough. So they both set off to the vice president of their class's house. Molly who just so happens to be the class president is strong if a bit stuck up to start but is really quite likable. Amy is a lesbian and has a crush on a fellow classmate and the two together share the majority of the screen time together. Both are played to absolute perfection by Kaityln Dever (Amy) and Beanie Feldstein (Molly) together they share an almost telepathic bond and are a joy to watch as their night goes from pretty standard to wild and out of control.  Booksmart is a coming of age tale but there is so much here also that makes it so much more. Firs...
