Spiderman: Far From Home review

Honesstly I was never the biggest fan of Spiderman: Homecoming, the first Spiderman led movie in the MCU. It felt clunky and wasn't all that funny. Michael Keaton was fantastic however and while Tom Holland did and has impressed as Spider-Man / Peter Parker I was still not fully on board with it all. That is until now..because Spiderman: Far From Home just may very well be the greatest Spiderman movie since Spiderman 2 way back in 2004. Adding in actors like Jake Gyllenhaal to the mix and more this sequel to Homecoming improves on it's older sibling movie in so many different ways. Following on from the end of Avengers: Endgame we see Peter struggling with life. His school is going on a trip to Europe which he feels like is the perfect escape from what has been going on lately. And while all that is fine and dandy a new threat is lurking deep within in the shadows. Peter really can't catch a break can he??

So it's off to Europe and we do get some stunning locations like Venice, Prague, London and Berlin. While in Venice with his friends a giant form made completely out of water attacks. And this is when Mysterio enters or as he is known at the beginning Quentin Beck. Played by Jake Gyllenhaal. He fights off the monster who as we learn a bit later turns out to be one of four different elemental monsters. Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Mysterio has already fought of 3 which just leaves one..The Fire Elemental which just so happens to be the strongest of them all. To go into the story anymore would be big spoiler territory so I'm just going to stop here. Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal though he is absolutely fantastic as Quentin Beck / Mysterio. He is completely unhinged, a bit of an over zealous man and a master of illusion. And it is in these illusion scenes where I noticed just how good it all really was. Not only is Mysterio better than The Vulture from the last movie as the big bad he is one of the best MCU villains period. The scenes where Spiderman gets trapped in his illusions are some of the most creative and wild scenes in the MCU.
Spiderman: Far From Home is highly entertaining. Tom Holland impresses throughout and has finally won me over as Peter / Spidey. Jake Gyllenhaal is fantastic and as for the mid / post credit scenes?? well let's just say that they blow the entire Spiderman saga wide open. Far From Home is a cut above Homecoming as it offers a wider variety of locations, an entire new stealth suit for Spidey and something that is genuinely funny. This one will be tough to beat. Rock on Spiderman!
