The Dead Don't Die review
I've always been a big fan of Zombie movies. Especially when they venture into the more comedic style of things. Written & Directed by Jim Jarmusch, The Dead Don't Die sports a pretty great cast which includes Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Selena Gomez,Chloe Sevigny and more. The Dead Don't Die does venture into both the comedy and horror side of Zombies and just what would happen if the dead did indeed rise from their graves. Part of me does wonder just how the world would react to such an outbreak. Unlikely I know but interesting nevertheless.
The Dead Don't Die follows a small town police force who are all pretty dry and deadpan. Nothing seems to even happy in their little town and the movie itself is incredibly slow paced. But for some reason I fell that it really worked here. The humor is incredibly dark, edgy and on the nose but it's absolutely hilarious at times. The first time Zombie's show up we're treated to two demented undead craving coffee as from then on all hell breaks loose with each passing night. Bill Murray and Adam Driver are really good here though Driver does blow everyone including Murray off the screen at all times. He's so innocent in a weird kind of way and deep down he's a Star Wars nerd (hint hint) Tilda Swinton is the supreme Zombie killing machine as she slices and dices the undead. As for the ending?? well it's all a part of the script as the movie breaks the fourth wall on multiple funny occasions.
The Dead Don't Die is a different approach to the Zombie movie genre. Some people I'm sure will dislike it a lot as the pacing is really slow at points but it is really funny, smart and just an interesting watch. Not on the levels of say Shaun Of The Dead but The Dead Don't Die is certainly in a league of it's own when it comes to tales of the undead.
