Supergirl 5x9 : Crisis on Infinite Earths : Part one review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The Crisis begins...The Monitor begins the first part of five episodes explaining the Multiverse. He mentions how the age of hero's came just in time to help with this giant incoming threat. He also talks about how the multiverse was created and how it's risen, fallen and thrived over many, many years. The Crisis then really begins as we're show a bunch of fun little cameos including Alexander Knox from Batman 1989 complete with him being on Earth 89. The skies around Gotham turn red as he looks up to the Bat-signal and hopes that the big guy is ready. On Earth 9 we're shown Jason Todd and Hawk from the DC Universe Titans show which was really exciting and surprising. A beam of light overcomes them as next up is Earth X which we all know of thanks to the crossover there a few years back. We see The Ray (not Ray Palmer) surveying the city as again the skies darken around him. Finally we're shown Earth 66 and again it's Gotham. This time Burt Ward is seen walking his dog down the street. The skies darken as he shouts out ''Holy Crimson skies of Death'' which was such an amazing throwback to his lines from the 1966 Batman TV show. Back in present day National City we see someone branding a board that states the end is nigh. Spike the dragon turns up again, last time we saw him was last season when Supergirl successfully stopped him from engulfing the city in flames. She does so again as back at the DEO she mentions how all pets are beginning to act more and more erratic. Inside the DEO the entire building and city for that matter begins to shake and move. Brainy mentions that an entire wave of Anti-Matter energy has been travelling through space destroying planets as it goes. And next up?? Argo City home of Kara's mom and thousands others. Not to mention Clark Kent and Lois Lane along with their son Jonathan. We see them and how they've been coping with parenthood. Clark is changing diapers as he is powerless on Argo. Back at the DEO Supergirl with the help of the others gets her message to Superman and Lois that Argo City is in imminent danger. And she's right as the skies once again darken as Argo only has meme minutes before it gets wiped from space and existence. Kara's mom shows up and with her help Lois and Clark send Jonathan off in an escape pod much like how Kal-El was sent to Earth. At the DEO Supergirl watches on as Argo City is destroyed along with her mom, thousands of innocent lives and Superman and Lois?? Brainy informs everyone that Earth-38 is up next as the anti matter wave continues it's path of destruction.

At the end of last week's Arrow episode we saw Lyla show up and say that she is Harbinger now. Well we see that scene again this time along with many other hero recruitment's as not only do Oliver and Barry get asked for help but Kate / Batwoman who it looks like was just about to get a lead on Alice and Sara and Ray also who just so happen to be out having a quiz night which was fun. They're all brought to the DEO on Earth-38 including Clark and Lois much to Kara's surprise and delight. They're all here on Earth-38 as The Monitor has deemed it as the place where they will make their stand against the Anti-Monitor. According to Harbinger he is the most powerful being with an army at his disposal. Things are looking up rather quickly however as The Monitor had previously placed Quantum Tower on various Earths as a last line of defense so to speak. Inside the DEO as Kate's anger with Harbinger boils and everyone is introduced to Mia a Quantum Tower rises from the ground and it actually works clearing the skies of National City. On the outside an army does arrive but it's an army of shadow demons. Batwoman. Ray, Flash, Mia, Supergirl and Superman deal with them as Brainy who learns of baby Jonathan Kent's pod location sets off to find him along with Sara and Lois. It turns out his pod god pulled into a temporal portal which caused him to crash land in Star City 2046. That is infact the same Star City from Legends Of Tomorrow season 1 where Oliver is without an arm and Connor Hawke is the Green Arrow. Arriving at the bunker Sara soon figures out that it was Oliver who found Jonathan and he is returned to Lois. This is a parallel Earth. One where Sara actually died after the Queen's Gambit went down and Oliver has been blaming himself ever since. This is a way for him to apologize to her but Sara says how getting on that ship set so many different and amazing things in motion that she wouldn't have it any other way. The two embrace before they all head back to Earth-38.
The episode comes to a close with all our hero's fighting off the shadow demons as back at the DEO Alex along with J'onn and Nia come up with a plan to to evacuate National City. Alex goes to see Lena for help in building a giant portal much like she did in Season 2 to help evacuate Daxamite people. Lena agrees not because she is friends with anyone from Team Supergirl but because the world is at stake. As for J'onn he spearheads the evacuation situation with Nia's help as Brainy had earlier given him the key to the Legion ship. With an incredible amount of people evacuate for Earth-1 the battle to save Earth-38 continues as our hero's still fight off the shadow demons as the Quantum Tower begins to fail. Supergirl and Superman power it up but it just buys some time as ultimately Earth-38 will be destroyed and that's what does indeed happen. But not before The Monitor shows up and snaps everybody out of there. Oliver asks how much of the City has been evacuated. The Monitor says not enough which leads to Oliver responding with ''Then it's not time'' with time running out second by second Oliver is left without any arrows left as Shadow demons rush towards him. He disables The Monitor with one of his last arrows which stops him from snapping him out of there. Oliver's bow falls to the ground as he rushes head first towards the Shadow Demons..the next thing we see is Oliver bloodied, beaten up and on the brink of death as everybody stands over him. Back on Earth-1 now as over a billion lives were saved according to The Monitor. This is not enough however, even though Oliver did the ultimate sacrifice. Speaking of The Monitor he mentions how this is not the ending he foresaw for Oliver as with each passing moment it looks like Oliver is about to breathe his final breath. Struggling to get out the words he mentions how Barry and Kara are the best of people and that they will be the ones to stop what is happening along with everyone else. Mia is up next and after earlier giving her a Green Arrow costume of her own Oliver tells her to always carry him in her heart and tell her mom how much he loved her, Mia and William. This is the end of Oliver Queen as Nash Wells beams into the scene. He mentions how it was him who let the Anti-Monitor out and how by doing so he has been deemed to watch all this destruction befall countless lives, countless Earths. He is Pariah now and as Oliver seemingly passes away he says that everything and everyone is doomed. And that's how part 1 of Crisis on Infinite Earths ends with everyone looking over Oliver who gave the ultimate sacrifice to save billions of lives. Is he really dead though?? Arrow still has 3 episodes remaining in it's final season and based on promotional photos and footage Oliver will still be around by at least episode 3. Could that be this Oliver?? or maybe it's Oliver from 2046?? either way we'll find out soon as part 2 begins tonight. Overall this was a bumper way to begin the crossover. It was a bit rushed especially in the beginning but it evened out in the middle before delivering a fatal punch in Oliver's sacrifice. This is only the first of five parts to Crisis on Infinite Earths and it is sure to only get more crazy as it goes on. The excitement is unfathomable.
