Wildwood review

In an evergrowing world full of generitive AI content Wildwood stands out as both a technical and creative marvel. Created by hand with so much love and care it's evident to see that Laika are true masters of their craft and love cinema. Wildwood tells the epic tale of a young girl's journey into a mysterious woods after her young baby brother is kidnapped by a murder of crows. Young Prue Mckeel takes it upon herself to rescue her brother whatever the cost. Along her journey she is joined by a local boy named Curtis and as the two get seperated their stories intertwine and intersect as bandits, animals and magic all stand in between Prue and her brother.

From the creators of Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings it's clear right away that Wildwood is a lot like those movies at least visually. But tonally this is Laika's most mature movie yet not shying away from violence, mature themes and even some blood. The scale of the setpieces are absolutely breathtaking including a final battle sequence that is akin to Lord of the Rings it really is that good and impressive.

Wildwood is not just the best animated movie in quite some time it is one of the best movies in quite some time period. It's full of charm, whimsy and reletable characters. I can't stress enough just how incredible this movie looks in action it's wild to even think that it was all created and crafted by the human hand and mind. With AI becoming more and more promiment in media Wildwood feels like one big giant finger to it all and showcases Laika at the peak of their powers. This is a movie you cannot miss!
