Superman & Lois 3x13 : What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Season 3 of Superman and Lois has come to and end in the most devastatingly epic way. The finale opens up with Sam Lane telling Lois and Clark that Lex Luthor is nowhere to be found. Clark adds more to this by saying he can't hear him either but Lois is not convinced after all Lex did literally threaten her at the end of last weeks episode. A meteor shower is planned for the evening right at the center of Smallville town so you just know something is going to go down then and as expected something major does go down but more on that a bit later. As the boys leave the house Lois tells Clark that she is ready to be intimate again and the two fly off to a private secluded area where they can be together for the first time since Lois had her breasts removed due to her cancer. It's a tender moment and one that does feel very important for Lois. Back in Smallville and things are heating up for a lot of people including John Henry and Lana who agree to go out on a date but more importantly we find out that Chrissy is pregnant with Kyle's baby. The only dilemma facing Kyle now is telling Lana as he wants to have this baby with Chrissy who herself is overcome with joy as she tells Lois and Clark at the Gazette. As this is going on Clark hears something off into the distance and it's the murder of the Judge we saw a few weeks back. This Earth's version of John Henry's sister if you remember who was the target of Bruno Mannheim for a bit. It has to be a message from Lex says Lois as things are beginning to heat up fast!

As we have known for a while now John Henry has been working for the D.O.D developing and supplying them with weapons. Well Sam Lane turns up on his doorstep and informs him that the D.O.D want him to work for them full time but it means relocating to Metropolis along with Natalie. Will Steelworks finally take off for John Henry and Natalie?? it remains to be seen but given how Metropolis is supposed to play a much bigger role next season it does make a lot of sense. It is soon time for the Meteor Shower and everyone gets into place including the boys and Natalie who meet Sam Lane and his new lady friend who right off the bat just seems off. And my suspicions were correct when the woman leads Sam into a lane before tasing him from the back as Lex's lackey Otis arrives on the scene. I assume this woman to be Eve Tessmacher but she is never called that by name but I think it's pretty obvious. Once Clark and Lois find out that Sam has been kidnapped Clark investigates and comes across something truly horrifying at the Kent Farm..

The episode and season draws to a close as before Superman arrives at the Kent Farm we're shown what Lex has been up to and he has been creating something indestructible. At the end of last weeks episode we saw him come across Bizarro in the old Bruno Mannheim testing room underground. Well this week we get a whole lot more info ultimately leading into the creation of none other than Doomsday itself. Bizarro is seen feeding on all sorts of animals from a cow to rats. Lex begins to play with him by killing him over and over again each ending in more destructive manners. Bizarro is shot, he's stabbed, he's blown up and even set on fire. Lex's place is to kill him so much as each time he does he becomes stronger and stronger to the point where it is indestructible. Bizarro also transforms with each death leading to him becoming a very comic accurate looking Doomsday. Back at the Kent Farm now and as Superman arrives so does Lex who tells him that Lois should've known better. He then unleashes Doomsday who crashes right into the barn destroying it. Lex tells Doomsday to bring him Superman's heart and the battle commences going from the farm to underwater to back at Smallville town where the Meteor Shower is taking place. Superman thinks he has defeated Doomsday after impaling him atop a tower's spire but it's no good, he's indestructible remember?? the battle continues as Superman is flown into space by Doomsday who with each death gains new power this time the ability to fly. Superman is flown into space and is seemingly knocked out but once he hears Lois call out to him he wakes up as we get flashes of the two on screen. Doomsday and Superman end up landing on the moon a bit away from one another. The episode and season ends as the two dash toward one another with the final shot of them just about to come to blows. Wow! that's all I can say really. What an ending and episode as a whole. First 10 minutes or so was kind of slow to get going but once it did boy was this unrelenting. This is how you do Superman full stop. An amazing episode and season as a whole. Doomsday's introduction was spectacular and the fight that followed had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Everything else going on like Kyle and Chrissy and John Henry and Lana was interesting too leading to a pretty great balance as this show usually does. Bravo!

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen season 3 of Superman and Lois is done and dusted. Where to begin with my thoughts I really don't know but as a whole this season was just fantastic. I don't think there was a bad episode throughout it's 13 episode run which is remarkable. This season did deal with a lot of subjects including cancer, death and the love one has for it's family and I think it did everything justice including the characters that I hold dear including Superman / Clark Kent and Lois Lane who were once again played pretty much flawlessly by Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch who make an incredible pair every single time they're on screen together. As for the rest of the cast well they all did a pretty much stellar job throughout. Bruno Mannheim was an incredibly solid big bad but even though he was only in 2 episodes for me Lex Luthor just stole the show. This is unlike any other version of Lex we've ever seen before and he was both intimidating and calculating which was fantastic to see. Also him introducing and creating Doomsday from the zombie corpse of Bizarro was such a cool detail and change to the source material that I just couldn't help but love it. This is Superman done right like I mentioned earlier and is easily one of the best DC related shows ever created and produced. Each season has built upon the last leading into what may very well be the last with season 4 which is unfortunate but at least we'll get a proper ending unlike other shows like Legends of Tomorrow whose ending still upsets me to no end. So with all of that being said I loved this season it was so good, so creative and as a big DC fan it was a joy to watch play out. Roll on season 4 is all I can say right now!
