Digger review

Now that the Mission Impossible franchise has ended and Tom Cruise is no longer shackled as IMF agent Ethan Hunt I was really hoping he would take more risks, be more adventourous and boy oh boy is this movie all of that combined and more. Digger is a black comedy satire focused solely on climate change, the disaster that could possibly await Earth and all that inhabit it. Tom Cruise who is wearing prosthetic makeup rather brilliantly plays Digger Rockwell a tycoon who after drilling a bit too much for oil in Greenland creates a diaster of unimaginable circumstances. What follows is two hours brillaintly made, brilliantly written and most importantly brilliant acted cinema that left me totally spent by the time the credits began to roll.

Tom Cruise is phenomenal right from the get go here, from the caring of his dying cat to his stylish wardrobe his performance is purely satire sure but it's also this quick witted almost dumb to the bone oil tycoon that it's hard not to fall for his charms no matter his shortcomings. There is a scene abotu midway through the movie that is worth the price of admission alone and may very well end up being Cruise's Oscar moment if he is to be nominated for this movie which I think he absolutely should be. I will be forgiven to mention that this movie does have a major plot twist pretty early on that I thought was so good and so random so it'll either work for you or it won't be for me it just added to the overall insane experience that Digger ended up being.

Destined to be one of the most polarising movies of 2026 Digger is remarkable it truly is. I absolutely loved my time with it I did in so many ways from it's top notch acting to it's great characters and at times bonkers narrative. Tom Cruise is on top form here along with the rest of the cast who do everything in their power to make Digger Rockwell one of Cruise's best and most out there performances but also one that is full of heart and wonder. Cinema at it's finest.
