The Devil Wears Prada 2 review
20 years is a long time to wait for any sequel to a movie come out, and with the huge demand for The Devil Wears Prada 2 finally arriving does it hold up to the original?? and more so is it any good in it's own right?? all of the original cast returns as Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all return to the world of fashion, glitz and glam. Twenty years have passed and after leaving her role as assisstant to medial mogul Miranda Priestly Anne Hathaway's character Andy Sachs is now apart of / running her own journlist based newspaper called The Vanguard. When she and her co-workers all get fired in a pretty public way she has to go to work once for with her ex boss at the Runway magazine.
I really did love the original The Devil Wears Prada movie it was very fashion focused and heavy on the journalist aspect and it's more of the same here but less of a balance. The first half is very journalistic while the second very fashion heavy with many glamorous cameos involved also. In that way it's a tale of two movies as the first and second acts do little instead meandering from scene to scene before picking itself up and delivering a really focused and quite excellent final act. Performance wise it's fine, Meryl Streep is great again as she was in the original seemingly never missing a beat and overall everyone here does a great job.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a worthy follow up in a lot of ways while not so much in others. I feel like it should've been made at least 10 years earlier but what we did get here isn't terrible by any means. It's packed full of fashion, money and the high life. Suffering from some weak moments let it down from being a truly great sequel and all in all if you loved the original this will do more than enough for you. Solid!
