Scream 7 review

The serial killer known as Ghostface returns once again and so too does Sidney Prescott the original final girl in this franchise. Neve Campell is back after not appearing at all in Scream VI. In a way this movie feels like coming home as it focuses solely on Sidney, her daughter Tatum and her husband as a new killer looms with blood, gore and plenty of scares along the way. For what it's worth I really did love Scream VI and would've love to see that story continue but what we've gotten here isn't all bad far from it. The dynamic between Sidney and her daughter whom she constantly tries to protect is fascinating to watch unfold throughout. Mother and daughter are the heart of this movie that really tries to hit home that fear is around every corner in every shape and form possible.

The opening is always important for Scream movies, from the iconic original to the others it sets the tone for what's to come and this opening well it's not great at all. Framed as an experience of the Stu Macher household it comes across as meaningless and pointless by the time the credits roll. It ties directly into practically nothing and just feels so barren and hollow. That being said the movie picks up the pace right after and apart from a really weak predictable reveal and motivation Scream 7 isn't all bad is nowhere near the worst in the series.

Horror needs more chase scenes and that is where Scream 7 excels as it features some truly adrenaline fuled chases that feel very warranted and are really engaging throughout. As for some nostaligia moments well you'll either love or hate what they do here I'm pretty much indifferent but it's a neat concept on paper the execution leaves a bit to be desired however all culminating in a movie that was written and directed by original writer Kevin Williamson ranks about right in the middle of overall franchise quality. Be prepared to Scream all over again!
