Marty Supreme review

Timothy Chamalet is easily the actor of his generation I feel. Every performance from him is so varied and so radically different from the last and he showcases his range and love for the medium in everything he does. This time around he plays Marty Mauser a young man with a big, big dream of becoming the number one ping pong / table tennis player in the world. He works as a shoe salseman in New York and gets the chance of a lifetime when he gets the opportunity to participate in the British Open tournament featuring the best players in the world. All he needs is money and it may come at quite a cost. What follows is a topsy turvy battle for Marty Mauser in a movie that is simply put sublime.

Timothy Chalamet is fantastic throughout here in a performance that is indeed award worthy whether he wins or not remains to be seen but he is exceptional here. The range of emotions and vast array of comedic timing and wit is second to none leading to so many hilarious moments be they intended or not. The rest of the cast do a fantastic job also helping bolster what is already a pretty impressive piece of cinema without. I've never been a fan of table tennis but the way it is performed and showcased here is nothing short of pure adrenaline fuel it really is remarkable.

It is fitting that this turned out to be the first movie I've seen in 2026 and boy oh boy what a way to kickstart the year. The ending sequence is an absolute masterclass proves that Marty Supreme is tender, sharply written, directed and acted and proves the greatness of Timothy Chalamet once more. A real contender for the best movie of the year already and one I'm sure will win plenty of awards and acclaim come award season. This is one you just must go and see, brilliant!
