Wicked: For Good review

I've always loved musicals be they adaptations of stage shows or biopics and last year we got Wicked the first in a two part epic that has now concluded with Wicked: For Good. But the question lingers is it a satisfying ending? or one not worthy of the iconic setting and characters?? Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are sensational as best friends / enemies Glinda the Good and Elphaba who after the conclusion of the first movie is now deemed The Wicked Witch of the West and number one enemry of the land of Oz. All because she dared question the integrity of the all wonderful and powerful Wizard of Oz. Right off the bat Wicked: For Good flexes it's stunning visual effects as the iconic yellow brick road is being built interconnecting all lands with the Wizard's grand palace. It is from here where the movie ebs and flows in a pretty swift way leading to what I think was indeed a very satisfying conclusion indeed.

If you love musicals you will absolutely adore this movie and last year's first part. It's moving, emotional and at times very touching all backed by impressive visuals like I mentioned and two leads who are very likable in similar aspects and polar opposites in others. It's fantastic performances already especially from Ariana Grande who steals the show once again as Glinda the Good. Her energy and overall personality is like if you trapped bubble gum and cotton candy in a jar and just let it loose it's warm, energetic and at times poise. Cynthia Erivo is bold, fierce and understanding as Elphaba. Her love for all creatures be they human or animals is a true testament to her will even in the face of such hatred she has to endure. The despise and pure disgust for her character by the people of Oz is very believable which only enchances her performance to greater levels.

Wicked: For Good is a fantastic follow up to last year's Wicked. It's not quite as good in terms of overall songs and how memorable they are but there is some really impactful numbers here, especially in the second and third acts. With some nods to the original Wizard of Oz with a certain character arriving to travel the yellow brick road and the clever way of implementing characters like The Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow it all ties back around by the time the credits begin to roll in what really did feel like an epic. Wicked: For Good is a spectacular treat for all musical and cinema lovers and is well worth checking out! Now go and fly high!
