Roofman review

Based on a true story Roofman tells the story of Jeff Manchester a real life spree-robber who escapes prison and hides out in a Toys R Us store only coming out at night as the store literally becomes his playground. Channing Tatum is absolutely brilliant here in a performance that is arguably his best. His cadence and even after committing these horrible crimes is very reletable as he only wants to do right by his kids. After being given a 45 year prison sentence he comes up with an elaborate escape plan that actually ends up working. He finds himself breaking into a Toys R Us building and hides in a section that isn't easily accessed. He begins to set up his own living quarters including video cameras, taking food from the store and even a sleeping area. Not to mention an obligatory scene compilation of him just messing around in the store during closing hours.

Being based on such an absurd true story that may be hard to believe Roofman is held together so strongly by it's performances by everybody. Channing Taum is excellent like I said but also really great here is Kirsten Dunst a worker at Toys R Us who ends up falling for Channing's Manchester when he visits her church in an attempt to blend into the area. He takes upon a new life, name and occupation leading to a second and third act that is as impactful as anything you'll see this year.

Roofman suprised me a ton it really did. Not only is is highly entertaining and really engrossing it is filled with excellent performances and puts the real life tragic story of a man wanting to only do right into perspective. Channing Tatum gives a career best performance as Roofman has quietly become one of my favorite movies this year which I didn't expect to say beforehand. Miss it at your peril!
