One Battle After Another review

The latest movie from Paul Thomas Anderson has finally arrived and not only is it one of the year's absolute best pieces of cinema it may very well be one of the best movies to come along in quite some time. From stellar performances and writing to visuals and pacing it's an absolute masterclass in filmmaking. The story revolves around a group of revolutionaries who take it upon themselves to take the fight against the military. What follows is wild, bombastic and highly entertaining movie that is without question Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnum Opus in my opinion.

Leonardo Dicaprio stars as one half of a two person revolution. Once the plan to assert their dominance gets derailed both Dicaprio and Teyana Taylor find themselves in a battle of survival and espionage as Sean Penn's Colonel Lockjaw is hot on their tails. After giving birth to a child 16 years past and now having a grown up daughter an old enemy resurfaces leading to one battle after another hence the title. And it really is one thing after another here as the pace is utterly unrelenting especially in the second and final acts.

This movie is a masterpiece simply put. My words really don't do it justice as it's filled to the brim with side splitting funny moments, impeccable and terrifying performances like Sean Penn who is almost terminator esque in his pursuit of Dicaprio's character. It's tension filled moments all backed by the usual Paul Thomas Anderson piano and musical undertones it's just so good. In summary One Battle After Another is a breathtaking fast paced piece of cinema that is easily one of it not the best movie of 2025. This is one you must go and see!
