Weapons review

From Director Zach Cregger of Barbarian fame comes Weapons one of the most visceral, heart pounding horror movies of the year. The story is quite peculiar as one night at 2:17 am in the morning an entire classroom (except one student) just up and run of their homes vanishing into the night. Right off the bat we've got a fascinating mystery and one that unravels, and unravels in more and more unbelievable ways as the movie progresses. I for one loved Zach Cregger's movie as long term readers of this blog surely remember it was one of my favorite movies of the year a few years back. Well it's safe to say that Weapons will be high up on my favorite list this year as it is bold, intense and utterly captivating cinema.

Performance wise it is pretty much flawless with Josh Brolin and Julia Garner putting in incredible feats of acting both playing pretty troubled and flawed characters. Not to mention how this narrative is told as it tells it's story from each main characters perspective before all culminating in one of the most bonkers third acts I've seen in quite some time.

So the question remains then. Is Weapons just all hype as I myself was led to believe before seeing it?? well it most definitely warrants every single bit of hype around it and then some. Zach Cregger is one of the most brilliantly talented horror Directors working today and much like Barbarian this is utterly mind bending stuff. It's tension filled script is full of tension, laughs and scares. Weapons needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible but be warned it is not for the faint of heart. One of 2025's best!
