Bring Her Back review
After the huge hit that was Talk To Me which released back in 2022 Directors and real life twins Danny and Michael Philippou are back this time with a deeply disturbing and un relenting horror masterclass. The story follows a brother and sister who after the death of their father are placed into a foster home with a seemingly perfect host played by Sally Hawkins. It's not long however before it comes clear that all is not as it seems and there is something truly demonic and ritual like going on. Bring Her Back is vastly different to Talk To Me in how it handles it's message of grief and how that can mold, shape and change a person. Sally Hawkins is incredible in her role and is easily the stand out here with a performance that is so emotional you can feel her pain and anguish.
There's blood and gore a-plenty which is to be expected given the Director's past in their Youtube videos which were gore and practical effects in a bundence. Here it feels so grotestque and dark it's definitely not going to be for everyone as at times it does get rather vicious with nothing left to the imagintion in a movie that really does pack quite a punch..quite literally.
Bring Her Back is a deeply unsettling movie. There's this highly intense feeling throughout that naws away at you. It's full of incredible performances like Sally Hawkins emotional grieft strikken foster mom but special mention must go to Sora Wong who plays the younger visual emapred foster child. Her performance is instantly memorable and iconic and worthy of being held to the highest level when it comes to award season. Between this and Talk To Me Danny and Michael Philippou are quickly solidying themselves as quite the horror Director duo and long may that continue. Horror brilliance indeed!
