Karate Kid Legends (2025) review

The original Karate Kid movie is a classic of it's time and genre. We're now in 2025 and after countless sequels and even a 'remake' will this new chapter in the Karate Kid saga be any good?? the story this time around follows a Kung-Fu prodigy named Li who is forced to relocate to New York City after his mom gets a new job. Once under the teachings of Jackie Chan's Mister Han he is now all alone in a big city and it's not long before he begins to attrack some unwanted attention. He meets a girl who works with her dad in a pizza parlor and it is here where a pretty needless sub-plot comes into play that really takes time away from what could've been used for much more nostalgia filled moments and characters of the past.

One thing I do love about this movie is how likable pretty much all characters are here, from Li to Mister Han and everyone else involved they all do a great job and really add so much to the story being told, a story that while pretty much the original movie in modern day form is fun and very reletable. As for the action and fight scenes they're really well done and the choreography is pretty much spot on. It's very much like watching a young Jackie Chan in Li as he mixes the arts of Kung-Fu and Karate effortlessly.

Karate Kid Legends is a fun movie it really is. With some great and really likable characters it is fun times and while not as good as the original it is very much a return to form in my opinion after a remake that really tried too hard to be 'gritty' and not enough heartfelt. The returns of Karate icons only help to bolster this and overall it's not quite good and is worth checking out if you're a fan of the series.
