Sinners review

Director and Writer Ryan Coogler's latest movie is Sinners a story about power, corruption and vampires. Coogler of Black Panther fame once again teams up with Michael B Jodan which not only gives him one but two roles of a lifetime. Set in 1932 Mississippi Sinners tells the tale of twin brothers both played by Jordan who return to their home to start again after the war. They attempt to set up shop in their home by getting together all sorts of people from singers to a young pastor's son who is a up and coming blues prodigy together to have the night of a lifetime. It's a simple set up and even more so in what it does but where Sinners really shines is the way it builds and builds until a heart pounding last act.

Michael B Jordan is absolutely fantastic here as twin brothers Stack and Smoke. He plays twin brothers sure but they really couldn't be anymore opposite in their approach to so many things that they do. The way they bounce off one another is fantastic and not to mention how physical and mentally strong they end up having to be. Also starring Hailee Steinfield who plays her role flawlessly Sinners really is at it's best when it begins to dig into folklore and the devil / vampires and the like. There is a lot of vampire cliches like garlic and not inviting the souls of the walking and living dead inside but it works and comes together pretty much perfectly.

By the time Sinners comes to it's conclusion you won't be rushing to get out of the theater, far from it. It is a movie that you will be no pun intended digesting for some time to come. Not only is Sinners one of the most original movies in quite some time it is easily one of if not the best movie of 2025 thus far and by years end it could very well be one of the best. Ryan Coogler is an incredible talent no doubt and the way he has brought this to life is nothing short of spectacular. The vampires are utterly chilling and the backdrop soul moving. Sinners is a must see movie!
