Drop (2025) review

Director Christopher Landon has been on quite a roll in the past decade or so when it comes to horror / thriller movies. From being the Director of the Happy Death Day duology to his writing efforts like this years Heart Eyes. Now he is back in the Director's chair and with Drop he has crafted one of the most well made, highly intense and edge of your seat thrillers this year. Drop follows a widowed mother's first date in years at a high class resturant which takes a terrifying turn when she is bombared with threatening messages on her phone during the dinner date which leaves her questioning just who or what is behind it all.

Drop is an intense, really well made and directed thriller full of so many ups and downs it's pacing really is frantic. It jumps from scene to scene to scene in a timely manner leaving nothing behind only a sense of further dread for our main character Violet who is brilliantly played by Meghann Fahy. Her performance really is the glue that holds Drop together as she if fantastic here as not only a survivor of abuse from her previous marraige but also her sense of trying to figure everything out as she can't tell anyone about the messages she is getting or else her son and sister will be harmed. On the other side we have Brandon Sklenar as her date and his performance is really solid, full of witt and charm and he plays against Fahy's Violet really well.

Drop is highly intense and about as sky-high as the view from the table where Violet has her dinner date. It's full of funny moments too with special mention going to the waiter who plays a more comedic relief but he really brings the laughs and tries to ease everyone into their evening. As the intensity ramps up and Drops comes to a close it really turns into a frantic topsy turvy romp that has a satisfying conclusion. Drop is fantastic, pretty much from beginning to end and while not perfect it is a great date night movie for sure and is well worth checking out!
