Snow White (2025) review

The latest in a long line of Disney classics being remade into live action is none other than ultimate classic Snow White. Everyone knows the story of Snow White and if you don't, what rock have you been living under?? a tale of the fairest and most kindest soul of them all Snow White is a timeless piece that has now gotten the live action treatment but is it any good?? Rachel Zegler stars as Princess Snow White and it is her and her alone that carries this movie with such grace and poise it's truly remarkable. She does it all, she sings, she dances and puts in one of the best performances in one of these live action remakes to date. Her theater background and work on West Side Story really shows as she belts out amazing songs even an original that is at the center piece of the overall narrative. She is pretty much flawless here and her voice is magical.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding this movie but putting that aside in summary it just isn't anything spectacular. It's meandering and plods along from song to song with little in between besides Zegler lighting up the screen whenever she appears. As for Gal Gadot who plays the Evil Queen she couldn't be any more opposite to Zegler if she tried her performance is flat, monotone and easily the worst part of this movie. It's staggering how little she is actually in it given she is the big bad but that is a positive in this instant as she stinks up the screen in what screen time she does have.

So is Snow White actually any good? in short it's got to be a no sadly. Especially if you were a big fan of the original as it lacks any sort of real charm apart from Zegler's performance. The seven dwards are also not done any real sense of justice are they are merely CGI creatures but that being said they do bring the most fun and humorous parts of the movie. All in all Snow White isn't terrible but it just feels so bland and mundane. You'll come for Gal Gadot but find yourself truly loving Rachel Zeglar and if this is anything to go by then a star may be born.
