Novocaine review
I was lucky enough to see Novocaine a little bit before it's official release and honestly what a chaotic wild ride this movie is. Starring Jack Quaid as Nathan Caine a man who thanks to a genetic disorder can literally feel no pain. From hot coffee being spilled onto him to dipping his hand into a fryer he cannot feel pain and is henceforth nicknamed Novocaine by school classmates. It's now years later and after meeting the girl of his dreams Shelly his whole life is tossed upside down as a botched bank heist leads to a kidnapping rescue mission as Nate attempts to rescue Shelly from being held hostage.
Jack Quaid is brilliant here, he really is. It's a role that feels made for him and he really does bring the comedy, the action and everything else in between. The scenes where he is forced to act outside his comfort zone are brilliant as Nate uses hot frying pans, glasses imbedded in his hands and more to fight off his foes. The rest of the cast do a good job also real belivable connections and a real meet cute romance between Nate and Shelly. Be sure to look out for the Max Payne reference.
Novocaine is like a shot of adrenaline, it is throughly enjoyable and makes for such a great night at the movies. It offers plenty of laughs and even a little bit of emotion at times too. Jack Quaid is great and overall this is a big, bombastic thrill ride that is well worth checking out. If only we could all feel no pain eh??
