Black Bag review
Starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett Black Bag follows a British Intelligence officer (Fassbender) who is tasked with investigating a list of possible traitors one of whom could be his wife (Blanchett), Directed by Stephen Soderbegh is one of the most well written, well acted and tightly made spy / thriller movies in quite some time. Early on there's a scene where all possible traitors have dinner together and the tension is palpable. It doesn't take long for the main aspect of Black Bag to kick in and once it does it is a 90+ minute thrill ride that while a tad predictable at times it's still so well crafted and acted by all parties involved.
Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender are very belivable as a highly intelligent and unrelenting couple who will stop at nothing to make sure they A stay out of trouble and B make sure no trouble comes to their employers. Both give fantastic performances along with Pierce Brosnan, Naomie Harris and everyone else. All taking place within a 7 day period Black Bag is so tightly and expertly crafted it blows away any spy movie of recent memory. It actually puts the latest James Bond movies to shame.
Black Bag is a throughly enjoyable spy thriller filled with amazing performnces, well written characters and is very belivable in it's narrative and endgoal. While being a tad predictable like I mentioned especially when it comes to it's endgame scenario it's not enough to take away from the overall product which is one of exquiste narrative storytelling and wonderfully crafted characters.
