Captain America : Brave New World review

The fourth Captain America movie has arrived and with a new Captain at the helm will it be as good as the previous outings for this iconic character?? the story this time around focuses on Sam Wilson's efforts to stop an impending war between the USA and Japan while also attemtping to uncover the mystery behind a foiled assassination attempt on the American President Thaddeus Ross now played by Harrison Ford. All things seem to being going well for Sam Wilson as Captain America as the beginning of this movie sees him and the aspiring new Falcon retrieve something of importance. Upon doing so Sam is asked to work with the President and work together to bring back The Avengers in what is now an everchanging world with more and more emerging threats.

Sam, Falcon and an old friend of Sam's who was captured and imprisoned in the US all get invited to the White House by the President. It is here where Sam's friend seems to go rogue and attempt to kill the President but he is apprehended. It's clear that someone else is pulling the strings in the shadows. I've always felt that the MCU is at it's best when it's not too cheesey or always attempting to be focused on comedy. Well here that focus isn't on comedy instead on creating a mystery that while not perfect does make sense and is justified for all characters involved. It does all come crashing down in a bit of a sloppy CGI filled third act but overall this is a solid narrative.

Anothny Mackie is great as Sam Wilson is great as Captain America. He isn't just a carbon copy of Steve Rogers he is his own character with his own strengths and weaknesses and that is something I really did like about this movie. As for Harrison Ford I thought he too was great here bringing a real sense of intensity to the role of Thaddeus Ross and later the Red Hulk. His performance was great in a movie filled with solid performances and good action for the most part. Captain American : Brave New World isn't exactly groundbreaking in terms of comic book movies but it is enjoyable and offers up some solid moments throughout. Enjoyable!
