Wicked review

Based upon the smash hit musical and set in the living breathing world of The Wizard Of Oz comes Wicked a tale about acceptence, bravey and always pushing forward. Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West. Right off the bat it's clear to see and hear that Wicked will be purely magnificent from it's opening moments which are so bright and colorful to the gleeming vocals of Ariana Grande it's absolutely mystifying to watch unfold before your very eyes. Once the story kicks into gear it only gets better and better as not only is Wicked pretty much perfection when it comes to it's musical elements and numbers it's pushed to even further heights by it's two main performers in Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

I honestly didn't believe the hype surroundding these two performances especially Grande as Glinda but I'm going to say that I was sorely wrong. Ariana Grande is nothing short of sublime as Glinda. Everything from the way she carries herself to her childhook like sense of wonder and amazements jumps off the screen it's just so delightful to watch and take in. And boy does she back it up vocally too with her voice going to near angelic status. As for Cynthia Erivo she is strong, fierce and a force to be rekconed with as Elphaba. Her performance is as strong as the magic and power she possesses. The two do a fantastic job together and the way they bounce off each other as the movie goes on is nothing short of bliss.

In summary is Wicked good?? absolute it is, it's fantastic. It is quite long clocking in at well over 2 hours but don't let that faze you in any way. This is a magical journey full of music, wonder and amazements. It ends on a cliffhanger with part 2 due out next year but it ends in a really satisfying way setting up the second part flawlessly. If you're a lover of musicals like I am Wicked will not disappoint in the slightest. It is visually superb and off the charts when it comes to music and score. One of the best movies of 2024 without a doubt.
