Lisa Frankenstein review

I love anything Gothic. Tbe Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline are some of my favorite movies of all time. With that being said when I first saw the trailer for Lisa Frankenstein I was instantly sucked in from it's visual prowess and undeniably gothic look and feel of it. But just what is Lisa Frankenstein about?? well in a nutshell it's a love story probably unlike any you'll see this year. The movie follows a missunderstood teenager who after her mother is killed right in front of her is forced off to live with a new step-mom after her dad re-marries. This teenager is played wonderfully by Katheryn Newton who is equal parts cooky and wildly likable. At school she is pretty much a loner apart from her best friend, at home her new step-mom isn't exactly a big fan of her and is always threatening to have her put into a mental asylum.

Her life changes forever as one night during a storm she stumbles into a haunted grave where previously she had been taking care of a grave belonging to man from Victorian times who has long since passed away. Her dream of being with him comes true via magic and a giant ball of green energy in the clouds that awakens the corpse leading to the two going on a killing spree looking for new body parts and maybe even true love?!

Lisa Frankenstein perfectly incapsulates 80's comedy into a modern day sense I believe. Everything from the style of clothing to the way people talk and interact with one another has a very 80's vibe and as a whole it is really well put together. Kathryn Newton is fantastic here and carries the movie with ease, Cole Sprouse is the reanimated corpse of a Victorian man and he is insanely good from the moment he appears on screen until the last. He gives off some big Johnny Depp in Sweeney Tood energy at points in what is arguably his greatest perfromance to date. So with all of that in mind is Lisa Frnkenstein worth checking out?? absolutely yes I would say. It's got some funnny moments and a love story that I felt really hooked into even if it did feel totally silly at points. Lisa Frankenstein is something I really did enjoy even so much more so than I expected.
