Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania review

I've never been the biggest fan of the Ant-Man movies to be honest. The first movie was enjoyable enough and the second did nothing for me really. Ant-Man as a hero is a really cool concept and with this the third installment into the now huge franchise I think it has found it's footing even if it still isn't perfect. Paul Rudd returns as Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and along with everyone else from the previous movies seems to be living their best lives. That all changes when Scott's daughter Cassie now grown up and played by Kathryn Newton builds a device that sends a signal down to the Quantum Realm leading to all of our heroes including original Ant-Man Hank Pym and his wife being sucked all the way down to the Quantum Realm. The movie takes practically no time to get going which was a pleasant surprise. Once inside the Quantum Realm things really amp up as we're ever so slowly introduced to the main villain and the main overarching threat for the MCU as a whole going forward in Kang The Conqueror.

The Quantum Realm is visually just vibrant and eye popping. Sometimes it looks a bit janky behind characters but overall it looks great and offers a great and different backdrop to that of recent MCU movies. The real highlight here however is the before mentioned Kang The Conqueror. Almost like a myth to those inside of the Quantum Realm everyone seems to be very afraid of him as he is mainly referred to just as 'Him' he is a truly fascinating character especially to me given how little I know about Marvel and it's history as a whole. He is effortlessly played by Johnathan Majors whose performance steals the show and is a stark contrast to Paul Rudd's family loving, joke cracking Ant-Man. He is all powerful and commands all of time culminating in a post credits scene that made my jaw drop.

Ant-Man and The Wasp : Quantumania is a very enjoyable entry into the Ant-Man series. It is far from perfect but is a BIG start to Phase 5 of the MCU and Kang already looks set to be a very threatening villain for many years and projects to come down the line. The is the first time I've been genuinely excited for the MCU in quite some time. Hopefully that can continue going forward.
