Superman & Lois 2x3 : The Thing in the Mines review

Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Superman and Lois is back with a new episode and this episode may just be the very best yet. It opens up with Superman high above the Earth listening to all the sounds going on below. He signals out the mines before flying directly towards it. On his way there he begins to get more visions like what happened in last weeks episode. It gets so bad that he flat out falls out of the sky before plummeting to the ground. We're back at the Kent family home soon after and see that Lois has contacted her father about getting clearance into the mines for John Henry Irons. Clark can't go anywhere near the area so Irons is their next sure bet to get inside. He just needs the proper clearance to get inside first. Lois also calls her father to basically get him back in Smallville as thanks to a new podcast that has dropped she is going to be under a microscope thanks to a past article where she got the info from her sister Lucy Lane. Speaking of Lucy Lane she agrees to meet her estranged sister but not in this episode, she will show up at some point I'm sure of it. While Lois is on the phone outside we hear Clark and Jordan arguing. Jordan asks Clark what he thinks of telling Sarah about him having powers. Clark is immensely against this stating that Jordan is only 15 and doesn't even know if he will still love or be with Sarah in years to come. Jordan says he knows now that he wants to marry her and continues his argument which causes Clark to become more and more angry to the point where his eyes begin to glow red and his voice changes to a much deeper tone. He actually ends up spooking Jordan pretty hard here leaving Lois to bring him and Johnathan to school instead.

Speaking of school we learn that Johnathan's football team mate has been taking a drug to improve his game. Johnathan's girlfriend Candice mentions that he is taking a crystal sort of drug that helps enhance his game in a big way. Could he be taking X-Kryptonite? or at least a less strong version of it. Johnathan later learns from his team-mate who is named Timmy that his very own girlfriend Candice is the one who has been selling him the drug. Towards the end of the episode we see Johnathan pay her a visit and instead of dumping her or calling her out on dealing drugs he asks her to sell to him. And thus a dark and dangerous path for Johnathan has begun. As for Jordan in this episode him and Sarah get back on the right track as he pays her a visit and gives her a gift of a necklace that belonged to his grandmother. Sarah gladly accepts it as the two kiss and make up. There's really some great character moments in this episode but they don't end here, far from it.

The episode draws to a close as John Henry Irons goes to the mines and after getting inside thanks to the clearance level retrieved by General Lane he meets the woman in charge of Amertek that Lois met last week. The two go into the mines and right off the bat it's clear that something is going to happen to Irons and it does as the woman knocks him out right in the middle of the mine which just so happens to be where a bunch of dynamite is placed. John Henry Irons manages to escape but more on that in just a bit as the main event of the episode is upon us. After experience more outbursts both physically and mentally Superman finally rushes off the mines again to confront whatever or whoever is waiting for him. The entity breaks free from the mines after being let loose by the woman in charge of Amertek. It's a giant hulking monster in a suit which blocks his physical form at first. Superman and the creature do battle as chaos and destruction reigns wherever they go all within the mines area. This is when John Henry Irons escapes from the mines as we get a really cool scene of his suit being sent to him before attaching to him in mid air as he comes to the rescue of Superman who is getting beat down pretty bad. Irons shoots the creature with solar flares but it has absolutely no effect whatsoever. Irons does manage to get a blow on the helmet and exposes the face. It's not Doomsday, far from it. It is infact none other than Bizarro. Superman sees himself behind the suit as they both experience the pain and vision of yet another outburst. The episode ends back at the Fortress of Solitude where Bizarro takes off the suit that was containing him as back at the Kent farm both Superman and John Henry Irons think they're enough to take down Bizarro, Lois and her dad disagree and want to get Anderson and his team of Super-Heros into the mix. Whatever will happen next it's going to be very interesting indeed, this was a super episode (pun intended) from beginning to end. It flowed well it was action packed and the twist of Bizarro being inside of the containment suit rather than Doomsday was a surprise I did not see coming. One final comment I have to mention is how the show's logo was flipped when the episode ending signalling Bizarro's arrival. What a genius little touch that was. This is Superman and Lois at it's absolute best.
