Supergirl 6x19 : The Last Gauntlet review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

The penultimate episode of Supergirl has come and gone and with the last ever episode right away following this episode can it set up the finale in a good way?? the episode begins where last weeks ended as the entire team arrive at the Tower and find William's lifeless body. His body gets covered up and as everyone is still distraught Lex appears on the screen. It's a recording left behind by him which sees him offering the team a trade offer. Hand over all the totem's they have including the Destiny Totem which they find a bit later. Hand them all over and in return he along with Nyxly will return Esme to Kelly and Alex. He mentions a spot for the trade to happen which is on a bridge which has become a deadzone which means absolutely no powers can be used there. Alex of course is furious at Lex and even mentions wanting to kill him herself in a fit of anger and frustration. So with Lex's offer on the table and the clock ticking will they go ahead with his offer??

While the team are left to muddle it over we are back with Lex and Nyxly who are with Esme. We see Nyxly attempt to get the Love Totem from Esme by saying the magical word which usually allows her to wield it. It doesn't work however instead the rose tattoo begins to lose it's petals on Esme's neck. With Nyxly attempting to get the Love Totem we see Lex by himself playing chess. His mother Lillian Luthor appears in the room lamenting her son by point blank refusing to that he is capable of love instead he only cares for himself. Lillian even says something similar to Nyxly a bit later which becomes a major breaking point between the two who ultimately end up ending their partnership with each attempting to get the all-stone for themselves. The tipping point here is when Lex attempts to physically harm Esme to get the Love Totem which was a bit dark even for Lex. We see Nyxly take the child and go to the meeting point on her own.

The episode draws to a close as the trade offer of all the totems along with the Dream Totem which was in Prague at the location of the three fates of Greek Mythology. If you've watched Legends of Tomorrow you know just who the three fates are. But with that being said it is Alex and Kelly who go to the trade location instead of Supergirl who gets left in the dark by Alex who wants to give Lex and Nyxly everything in return for Esme. The deal takes place and things look to be going smoothly but Lex turns up with his mother and sets off bombs on the bridge. While this is happening back in the city Supergirl, Brainy and J'onn come up with a very dangerous plan indeed. Supergirl attempts to play god and thanks to a secret, solar powered satellite. With the help of J'onn who places the satellite into position Supergirl takes her place above the skies in National City and begins the transition. This is all Brainy's idea and if successful not only will Supergirl become stronger but she will also become smarter and pretty much invincible. We soon see Supergirl getting blasted with solar rays of energy with 4 minutes to the countdown which will turn her into a supreme powered being. As this is happening the skies turn a lot darker and people on the ground begin to question Supergirl. Kara can hear and see all of this however and with only mere seconds remaining she tells Brainy to shut it all down to which he does. Back on the ground and the three apologize to the people before all flying off to where Alex and Kelly are. Upon arriving and with the Totems now all together to form the all-stone it looks like the villains will win but after a tussle which sees almost everyone have the all-stone for a moment it is none other than Esme who throws the stone on the ground shattering it into three different pieces. Supergirl, Nyxly and Lex all get one piece. Supergirl gets knocked back by it's power as Lex and Nyxly's faces begin to twist and contort. As Nyxly prepares to blast Lex none other than Lillian Luthor jumps in front of the blast taking it directly in the chest. The two soon fly off into the distance as Lena is left to look after her adopted mom who is in a pretty critical condition. Soon enough we're back at the Tower as on the news reports of two titans (Lex and Nyxly) fighting and tussling throughout the city are leading to the people of not just National City but the world losing all of their power. Hope, Love, Destiny, Truth which are all essential human emotions and feelings are being drained more and more the longer Lex and Nyxly fight. The episode ends as we see Supergirl watching over the people who turn from a full body glow to a grey darkish color. This was a great episode overall and set up the finale really well. The stakes were high and I really did feel it throughout. One episode now remains and it is up next!
