Superman & Lois 1x4 : Haywire review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

After a bit of a drop in quality last week can Superman & Lois reclaim it's momentum? the episode begins 6 years in the past as we see Morgan Edge uncover some sort of Alien technology seemingly having crash landed. Skip to present day and we see Morgan Edge attempting to get close to Lana Cushing via her husband at a football game. What could he want with Lana? as for the football game it turns out to be Jordan and Johnathan Kent's first real football game at their highschool. Clark who joined the coaching staff last week looks on like a proud dad as the game takes place in truly horrible went and muddy conditions. It's Jordan who becomes the star of the show as he outshines everyone else even his brother. As Clark assures Johnathan that his time to shine will come back at home and Lois gets paid a visit from her father. General Lane who talks about the family moving away from Metropolis has raised serious red flags. Why did Superman move away?? why did he move to Smallville?? these are all questions that Lois has no time for as A:) she has Morgan Edge on her mind and B:) her dad has no real say in where her and Clark live and how they raise the boys. It's actually a pretty heated debate between father and daughter as Clark soon arrives back at home. Things are looking a lot better for Jordan Kent as he is practically the toast of the town as he carried his team to victory. While at a diner he is talking to everyone but it is Sarah Cushing once again who he really only has eyes for. At the diner we see Johnathan talking to a fellow team mate a guy named Tag who injured his arm and hasn't been able to play football. He's a character that is heavily featured but more on him a bit later.

At the Smallville Gazette Lois Lane has a new story ready and waiting to go to press about Morgan Edge, she and her boss get interrupted by a woman who basically warns Lois that if her story gets printed she will be sued. This woman is the exact same woman who we saw murder the assassin at the end of last weeks episode. The following day there is a town assembly meeting where if Morgan Edge gets the approval he wants he can begin his work in Smallville. We see Lois ask Clark to help her with this and show up at the assembly in full on reporter mode. He agrees but ultimately doesn't show up instead gets pre-occupied with General Lane who needs his help dealing with a prisoner transportation. At the town assembly Morgan Edge obviously gets the approval he needed and now begins his work in Smallville. Lois ends up meeting with Morgan and the same woman from earlier and basically declares to not stop chasing the story. A lot of talk about suing and counter suing is imposed which is to be expected. Back at home and General Lane is there once again this time to talk to the boys about their dad, his powers and respecting the responsibility of it all.

The episode draws to a close with Lois Lane stating her disappointment in Clark Kent for not coming to the town assembly and basically just being there for her as both her husband and a beacon for Smallville. She goes out for a night on the town with Lana leaving Clark to go to a team talk with the boys. At the talk the guy I mentioned earlier named Tag runs out of the team talk and to the bathroom. Inside the bathroom his arm which is in a sling begins to shake and spiral out of control. Johnathan is hot on his tail. When he's told to be left alone by Tag Johnathan gets Clark involved as the boy soon breaks free of his cast completely in the bathroom much to his surprise. This leads to a everyone going to a party which the boys also attend. At the party Jordan is once again with Sarah while Johnathan appears to be actually getting along with his fellow team mates who had previously given him a rough time. Things soon take a turn for the worst however as Tag once again begins to experience his arm starting to shake and spiral out of control once again. He breaks a piece of furniture in the house which angers the party's host. Tag pretty much bolts from the party with Jordan and Johnathan in hot pursuit. They both are drawn deep into the woods as on the other side of town Superman does his job and saves lives as the prisoner who I mentioned earlier breaks free from his capture vehicle. The criminal has something up his sleeve however in the form of a sonic amplifier weapon which does stop Superman in his tracks but not for long as soon enough he hears the cries of terror and help from his sons in the distance. Superman claps his hands together in a powerful move that destroys everything in and around him. He's then gone in an instant as he comes to the rescue of his sons as he takes Tag high into the skies where upon seconds he passes out. Back on the ground and at home we learn that Tag is actually a metahuman and is now at a special school for fellow meta-humans. Jordan and Johnathan are blown away by this as Clark questions why they didn't send the signal for him earlier than they did. General Lane is immediately put to blame. He ups and leaves within moments leaving Clark and Lois to enjoy a romantic date night in the barn. The barn? yes the barn as Clark tries his best to make up for not only not attending the town assembly meeting but also for all the number of date nights he has missed over the years. He confesses his love and admiration for Lois which she says back. But of course this is Superman and once again he gets a call to leave and he does leaving Lois behind who blows a kiss to her Man Of Steel. The episode ends with two more plot points. Firstly there is General Lane who still has the dogtag from a few weeks back. He is on the phone to somebody on a secure line. He states that it's time to put Project 7734 into effect which means what exactly? who knows but we'll find out I'm sure. The other big plot point is that of Morgan Edge who along with the mysterious woman uncover a whole bunch of Kryptonite buried deep underground. So Morgan Edge is creating super powered people after all?? this was an interesting episode on two notes. As for the episode overall it was fine but much like last week wasn't exactly amazing. It had it's moments for sure but overall it didn't feel as good as the first two episodes that's for sure. Next week is the final episode for some time as Supergirl will take this show's time slot until May. Unfortunate but that's how it's got to be. So yeah overall a good episode just nothing spectacular.
