Supergirl 5x12 : Back from the Future (2) review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Supergirl returns from it's hiatus with the second part of a double episode featuring Winn, Toy man and much more. The episode begins at a bar where we see everyone sharing some quality time together after thinking they've defeated Toy man and saved Winn's future. Winn talks about his Legion name which is Computer Lad (not so good that there Winn) William shows up after being invited by Kara and the two proceed to belt out Africa by Toto in Karaoke form. It's a really sweet and adorable scene much like a few seasons back when Kara too did Karaoke. While Kara and William are signing Alex mentions how she's placed some spyware on Lex as she still doesn't trust him. She has access to everything he is doing and not doing by the books when it comes to the DEO. Alex then gets a 911 call from the DEO. It's Brainy and he is under attack from some small drone like machines as they shoot at him while he ducks for cover. Upon arrival everyone finds out that Toy man is not actually gone in fact he lives on through a serve which he used his code to download himself into a laptop. He soon appears on the screen and threatens everyone as he now has control over pretty much everything electronic. His ultimate goal?? well to get into the World Wide Web so he can control literally everything. Alex orders her agents including Supergirl to remove all tech from the DEO to stop Toy man from using it against them. She orders Brainy to lock Toy man out of the server and restore it to it's normal function. Lex has his own orders for Brainy and that is to copy Toy man's code which has made him immortal in a way to speak. Playing both sides Brainy's loyalty is put to the test again throughout as he plays both sides to try and keep each happy.

William after earlier doing Karaoke with Kara ends up asking her out a bit later in the episode which surprises Kara. She came up with an excuse of having a sick grandmother to not answer in that moment as things with Toy man really began. She talks to Winn a bit later and mentions how she doesn't want to go through what she did with Lena. She doesn't want to hold in her being Supergirl to William but by revealing herself everything will change. Winn really wants her to just go for it and see what happens so it'll be interesting to see how this new love interest story all unfolds. Speaking of Winn though he and everyone else learn that his father the original Toy man from season 1 of Supergirl is alive and well inside of Toy man's code. This leads to Wnn thanks to some Legion tech shrinking down to a miniature size so that he can get inside the serve to stop Toy man and see his dad. Has he changed remains the ultimate question to answer as in the past he's spoken of having changed but acted the complete opposite.
The episode draws to a close inside of Toy man's code where Winn's dad does await. He begs for his son to let him out of a make shift prison that he is inside of. Toy man shows up however as the two Winn's do battle which doesn't really go anywhere sadly as really this scene is more of a homage to the power that a father & son bond can hold. Winn's dad sacrifices himself for his son as Winn rewrites Toy Man's code deleting both him and his dad in the process. Back on the outside Winn tells Supergirl that his dad actually sacrificed himself for him and in turn he will not use Computer Lad as a Legion name any longer. Now he is going to use Toy man and use it as a force for good rather than evil and bring some prestige to the name. Everyone agrees including Kara and as Winn leaves he again urges her to tell William her secret before getting into any sort of relationship. Back at their office space Kara walks up to William and rather then tell him her secret or anything she bails out and tells him that she doesn't feel the way that he does about her. This crushes William it's easy to tell as his entire demeanor changes from happy to stop start. That's not all that happens though as minutes after Winn announced he was to leave Alex announced that she was stepping down from the DEO. In turn this leads to Lex appointing Brainy the new director as the search / plan to take down Leviathan looks like it's finally falling into place. At Kara's apartment both her and Alex are talking before they hear a knock on the door. Kara thinks it's J'onn with some pizza but it's actually a nice surprise who it is. It's Mr. Mxyzptlk this time portrayed by a different actor and that's how the episode ends with the 5th dimensional imp once again seemingly here to torment Kara in some way perhaps?? as a whole this episode was fine. It was nothing special really but did have some nice moments like Kara and William doing Karaoke and Brainy's loyalty being put to the test. There was more going on too like Lex's attempts to merge both Obsidian and Luthor Corp. Lex has become some a background character now which I'm not really a fan of. He should be front and center but right now he's playing second fiddle to everyone else. With Alex now gone from the DEO and Brainy in charge here's hoping Lex gets a lot more screen time as 10 or so episodes remain in season 5 of Supergirl. Next week is the 100th episode of Supergirl which is sure to be an interesting episode for sure. Until then!
