Last Christmas review

On paper Last Christmas seems like your typical romance type movie where the two leads meet, fall madly in love and live happily ever after. Well you'd be right in thinking that as this does have a lot of the before mentioned ideas and remnants but there is a much more to it once you dig deeper. Starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Goulding. Last Christmas tells the story of Kate (Clark) who is a young woman who has made plenty of bad decisions in life. When she was younger she was the big prospect in her family but after falling ill that was all put to the side. When we first meet her she is working in a Christmas themed shop selling all kinds of merchandise from nutcrackers to baubles all while being forced to dress as an Elf by her managed whose name is Santa. One night when rushing for an audition on the West End Kate who was supposed to lock up leaves the main door unlocked causing a break-in. It is soon after this we're introduced to Goulding's Tom Webster an almost too perfect, too polite man who is strangely bizarre at times.

Emilia Clarke is really good throughout here and carries to the movie in my opinion to it's highest of highs and lowest of lows because it does have it's fair share of both. Her character and Henry Goulding's relationship blossomed far too quickly for my liking as at one point they are strangers and not 30 minutes later she's out looking for him on the streets of London. It's all incredibly fast paced and filled with such weird dialogue that I'm sure some people don't even say. Clarke is amazing though and so is the soundtrack which is all George Michael based hense the name of the movie. But there's a problem here also as some tracks don't suit what is happening on the screen which ultimately takes away from a scene. Some tracks fit perfectly on the other hand so it sort of evens itself out. As for the ending of Last Christmas?? well it's something I didn't see coming if I'm being honest. It really tries to be too clever but it did come off as a little bit cheesey too. I do however love the underlying message that it has which was heartwarming.
Last Christmas is an enjoyable Christmas movie if only for Emilia Clarke's performance and the George Michael tracks. It's littered with some jokes that aren't at all funny but some will raise a smile. The setting of London is absolutely beautiful and the overall message of the movie like I said is incredibly heartwarming. Last Christmas isn't the greatest Christmas movie in some time like it promised but you could watch a lot worse.
