Knives Out review

I've always loved a good murder mystery. A proper who done it. And with Knives Out that is exactly what is on offer here. Written and Directed by Rian Johnson who has assembled a pretty incredible cast here Knives Out is a almost perfect tribute to murder mystery classics from Agatha Christie. Starring Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon and more Knives Out tells the story of a well inclined family whose father was found dead after a very recent birthday party, Christoper Plumber plays the head of the family Thrombey who is the head of a giant book of stories corporation. His demise comes at the hands of apparent suicide which leads to 2 cops and a detective being led onto the case. With clues pointing at every single family member being somewhat involved Knives Out chugs along perfectly as fingers are pointed left right and center.

Performance wise Knives Out is absolutely stellar. Daniel Craig plays a detective named Benoit Blanc. A master detective who has solved a number of cases. Complete with a southern accent this is Craig's best performance in years as the movie goes on he only gets better and better. The rest of the cast do a stand up job also as Knives Out is tightly written and at times really funny. But it's Ana De Armas who steals the show here. A nurse who is responsible for looking after Harlan Thrombey. She plays the role almost too well at points really convincing you of her timid nature and unwillingness to lie as when she does so she vomits leaving the truth at the end of it all every single time.
Knives Out is a who done it like any other who done it. It's smartly written, poignant and as for the reveal at the end? it's almost like you should have expected what happened but you don't as it's done really well and formed into such a nice and neat little donut hole. Daniel Craig and Ana De Armas are the standouts here but everyone else is also really good with each family member trying their best to play it cool. Rian Johnson has crafted a unique and riveting story experience that knows when and how to both slow down and speed up at just the right points. Knives Out is definitely worth your time and is easily one of the best movies of 2019.
