Supergirl 4x17 : All About Eve review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Of course after the high's of last week this week's episode of Supergirl was never going to live up and continue the incredible standard set by the Red Daughter's origin episode. That's not to say this isn't a bad episode because it isn't but compared to the last 4 weeks or so it definitely feels a lot more stock. Beginning in Lena Luthor's office we see DEO agents rush in and find her out of it. Next to her is a letter with her name on it which we saw being placed by Eve at the end of last week's episode. Alex opens the letter and see's that it's from Lex Luthor. Lena comes to moments later and is met by Alex. At J'onn's PI office we see him and Supergirl talking. And it's through J'onn that I got the most enjoyment out of this episode besides the ending which I'll get to. J'onn struggles with his identity throughout and decides to consult his father through his mind by using the White Martian staff. He is successful and gets a call from his father who knocks at the office door. Astounded by seeing his father again J'onn is even more surprised when his father talks about his failings and how he has not been a man of peace like he promised him that he would. J'onn overcome with guilt and frustration over not only letting his father down but the entire Martian race also says that he is sorry and he will try to be better. His father doesn't agree and says he is going to take back the sacred Martian symbols that detail all of Martian life in the universe. Without it record of Martian life will be lost forever. But more on this later.

Back at the DEO Supergirl is greeted by blaring alarms as she shows up offering not only her services but donuts also. What a nice super hero. She says that Lex has gotten powers and while the DEO has been redirected to the White House to help with protecting the building over the Alien Amnesty Act possibly being revoked Supergirl does get some help from Alex who pays Lena a visit. She gets a lead and calls Supergirl along as they go visit Eve Tessmacher's aunt who actually turns out to just be a cousin. A cousin who Eve injected with Lena's cure to help her get rid of her cancer. Eve is a good person says her cousin and while Supergirl agrees with the good intentions show she doesn't think Eve is good. She's madly in love with Lex it's revealed soon after at a secret lab that Eve has been using. Inside is a bunch of evidence towards not only Eve but Lex too. Like the gun used by Eve to shoot James Olsen and plans and subjects for a new Metallo Project, which just so happened to be how Otis Graves was brought back to life. Supergirl, Lena and Alex are interrupted by a functioning Metallo who damages Supergirl to the point of her not being able to fight back. Alex and Lena make up a grenade of sorts and defeat the killer kryptonian robot. At Cat.Co Kara walks into the room and tells James who really shot him. He thought it was Manchester Black but it was Eve, all planned by Lex Luthor of course. It's also learned that James has been suffering from severe trauma. He's avoiding anything to do with Lex as even in his office all the TV's are turned off. His sister suggests that he let her help him but he says no. More on J'onn now and as him and his father continue to debate over a cup of coffee we finally get to hear J'onn say those all important words. ''I AM THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER'' I instantly got chills here much like I did way back when Oliver said he was the Green Arrow for the first time in season 4 of Arrow. The moment he says that and how he is not a man of peace a weight seems to lift off of J'onn. His father even seems happy with his son and while he wished he could've been a man of peace and protect the sacred Martian symbols he is happy that his son has found who he is and what he was meant to do. I've always been a fan of superhero's dueling identity's so overall this was the best part of the episode for me as J'onn finally accepted his Martian Manhunter persona and now hopefully he will be taken a lot more serious.

The episode comes to a close at the White House. And after the Alien Amnesty act is lost Supergirl spots Eve in the crowd. With James on the inside they both investigate. Supergirl comes across a car with x-ray vision proofed over it. Inside is Eve but turns out it's only a hologram. Eve is on the inside somewhere. All power gets lost but that's not how it ends oh no as Supergirl (Red Daughter) rises up from below the ground and absolutely obliterates everybody inside of the White House. Supergirl is still on the outside as when she saw that Eve was only a hologram she got trapped in a suit that rendered her completely harmless thanks to kryptonite. Red Daughter who is wearing Supergirl's clothes and not the costume we saw last week burns the White House down almost as she says to Ben Lockwood ''Let them hate'' before flying off into the night sky. It's not known if Kara saw her from below but one way or another they are going to meet soon. The President calls for a special TV broadcast and in it he proclaims Supergirl as public enemy #1 and says that she just became the country's top enemy. All in all though this episode was solid. It definitely got better as it went on but sadly featured no Lex Luthor which was a negative in my opinion. The ending was completely bonkers however and solidified Red Daughter as big threat. Supergirl now goes on break until April 21st. Until then Kara!
