Legends Of Tomorrow 4x11 : Seance & Sensibility review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
A funeral, sex, a musical number and some laughs this episode of Legends Of Tomorrow is an interesting one to say the least. Beginning with Constantine,Mick, Ray and Sara going to pay their respects to Nate's dad after his demise last week. Ray says he can't face Nate and wonders from room to room before dodging an encounter with his friend. He eventually ends up in the same room as Constantine who says he can feel an energy in the room. Ray then makes his way to the bathroom where after hearing some noises removes a shroud from the bathroom mirror and surprisingly sees Nora standing before him. She says that she didn't kill Nate's dad, overcome with joy that she's innocent (even though it's not been proven) Ray suggests she come meet him and they do end up meeting on the waverider. Speaking of the waverider aboard we see Charlie trying to coax the wolf out of Mona who is not so happy with this. We learn that Mona is a big fan of Jane Austin which ties into this week's time period as her t-shirt which included all names of Jane Austin's books begin to fade away Gideon suggests that a magical fugitive is on the loose in Bath England 1802. And after arriving gathering Zari who seemingly has the hots for Nate all of a sudden, her Sara and Mona go to investigate. They bump into a coachman who is charms Zari all be it a bit too much. They eventually all go to a church where a wedding is being held and it's here where the episode just completely falls apart for me. Not only does the bride say she can't marry her soon to be husband because she's in love with another woman, the groom says he is in love with the bride's mother and passionately thrusts himself into a passionate embrace. The entire room then overcomes with lust to which Charlie says is the best wedding ever. This entire scene was so bad, it wasn't funny and was nothing more than complete cringe.
At the wedding in attendance was in fact Jane Austin and with little to no clues about the magical fugitive Sara sends Zari off to question that coachman from earlier. Well turns out he is the magical fugitive. He is actually the Hindu God of Love and is able to seduce and charm anyone he comes into contact with. It looks like him and Zari are about to hook up but instead she cuffs him just as Sara and Mona arrive. Back on the waverider the magical fugitive uses some sort of love dust which he blows into the vents causing all aboard to experience vivid sexual dreams. Mona dreams of the Konane obviously, Charlie dreams about David Bowie, Sara dreams about Ava and Zari?? well she dreams about not only getting it on with the Hindu God of Love but also Nate in a threeway. She manages to break the spell however. Later as her and the magical fugitive talk some more he offers her a way to live and act out all her sexual and deviant desires. She takes his offer inhales more of the dust we saw earlier and it's from here where the episode not for the first time falls into complete madness. As Zari agrees to marry the guy it all takes place inside a Bollywood musical number that while funny as the other legends join in also just feels so out of place that it's hard to understand why it's even here. Tala Ashe who plays Zari shows off her impressive vocal abilities which I did appreciate but for the most part this was pointless and served little purpose to move the plot forward. Speaking of moving the plot forward we finally learn just why Hank Heywood was taking the magical creatures from the Time Bureau to experiment on them. As Nate prepares to say goodbye to his dad for good he stumbles upon a secret room after pulling on a Disneyland book. Inside is various plans, blueprints and a video. A video where we see Hank talk about his plan. And his plan?? well it's to open a theme park full of these magical creatures. I couldn't believe this when I heard it to be honest. Coming from what we saw from Hank in the back half of the season this just seems like a completely different guy. A theme park for magical creatures?? what even happened to Project Hades?? and why is this show getting worse and worse almost by the week?? I don't know but it's really really sad to be honest.
The episode draws to a close with Constantine who summons the spirit of Hank through Mick learns that he was working with a demon named Neron. Upon hearing the name Constantine almost falters a bit and as we know from earlier in the season Constantine has dealt with the demon in the past. Well it's coming back to haunt him as again after looking in a mirror Constantine sees his own reflection that says he enjoys sending all those close to him to hell. Astra, Desmond who is next? the legends?? his reflection laughs as Constantine turns to see Desmond in the mirror who reveals himself as Neron to Constantine and that's where it ends. Overall then how was this episode?? horrible. Simply put. Barely funny, cringey and while the musical scene was good like I said there was no real purpose for it. Hank Heywood's ultimate goal was ludicrous and week by week this show is becoming a shadow of it's former self. Which I really don't even want to say because I've loved this show the past 2 years. Season 1 was incredibly rocky, season 2 was a big step up and season 3 was just fantastic. Part of me now wonders if this show has already peaked. Either way I look forward to next week in hopes of it being better.
