Five Feet Apart review
Cystic Fibrosis or CF as it's mainly called in this movie is a horrible condition to befall anyone. It is heavily featured throughout here and can be very eye opening at times as the movie goes on. Starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse as two young adults who've been struggling with CF their entire lives. Stella (Haley Lu Richardson) has been living with CF all her life and is a strict bossy young woman who likes to have everything in her life in place. Will (Cole Sprouse) couldn't be anymore opposite and as the two first meet at the hospital they are both attending sparks don't immediately fly rather it takes time for things to develop which was good and interesting.
The two leads here are incredibly likable and charming. Haley Lu Richardson's Stella steals every scene she's in almost and is a pleasure to watch. Cole Sprouse's Will is good here also and offers a good sense of stability and rebellious nature to Lu's Stella who can be very bossy and demanding at the beginning. As the movie goes on and their relationship blossoms into something quite pretty it is here where the movie ultimately falls into the melodrama teen act. The first act was so interesting as the characters weren't immediately thrust into a relationship. It was allowed to slowly develop and it was a really entertaining watch. The second act isn't bad by any means but with far too many soundtrack moments over some scenes it was a bit overbearing and distracting.
Five Feet Apart offers an interesting delve into Cystic Fibrosis and what it does to affect people in their day to day lives. It's two main leads are a joy to watch with Haley Lu Richardson being just fantastic. But it gets lost in the middle a bit and while it's ending is about as good as you could want it drags on a bit too long which takes away from the overall impact and message. It's also not as emotional as I thought it would be which was another bit of a letdown. It's definitely worth a watch but don't expect anything major before hand.
