The Glass Castle review
The Glass Castle starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts among many other talents.
Based on the book of the same name by Jeannette Walls depicting Walls's real-life childhood spent squatting in homes and living in poverty, the film stars Brie Larson as Walls with Watts and Harrelson in tow. The performances are what really make this movie. Brie Larson and Harrelson are just brilliant in their roles and without them this movie just wouldn't have worked. Brie Larson as I've always known is a really talented actress and she proves it here once again. Harrelson is just brilliant in the role of the drunken abusive and down right cruel sometimes father Rex Walls. Harrelson has to be nominated for an oscar for this in my opinion. It's that good of a performance.
He along with Brie Larson carry the movie to it's biggest and highest points. Not putting any other cast members down or anything but the two before mentioned are just amazing. Switching from a serious tone to light hearted one in a matter of seconds. Some of the moments shown where he is kind to his kids and just fatherly like are really emotional and some scenes are strong enough to make some people teary eyed. That's testament to Harrelson's acting he really is just incredible in this role.
This is really acting at it's best. It's all the in between parts thought that really let this movie down. It handles some of the material very poorly in my opinion with better care this would have been an instant hit. But because of that it just falls short. Go see this if you love movies for strong performances from the actors because as I said some of the performances are amazing. They really are the glue that holds all this together.
