Top 5 Favorite Shows of 2025
1) Dexter Resurrection : Where do I even begin with this?? back in late 2023 I began watching Dexter for the very first time. I became obsessed with the whole entire cast, vibe and acting of the show. It instantly became one of my favorite pieces of TV media of all time. I binged through every bit of it including the New Blood sequel series in no time and by the time 2025 rolled around not only was the prequel series announced that was to focus on a young Dexter Morgan it was announced that Michael C Hall the legend himself was returning as Dexter Morgan in what promised to be a really different take on the character and boy oh boy was this a different and fascinating series of television of the highest possible quality. Everything from the writing, character interactions and motivations were all spot on. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better return of Dexter and waiting each week for a new episode of the summer months was truly a highlight. This wasn't just a rehash or reboot this was Dexter firing on all cylinders and that is why it stands tall and proud atop this list as my favorite show of 2025. Season 2 can't come quickly enough!
2) Dexter Original Sin : We’re double dipping with Dexter Morgan here. And while this prequel wasn’t as good as Resurrection it was the perfect accompany piece and served as a wickedly good follow in. The story of how Dexter came to be is well known if you’ve seen the original series but this prequel somehow managed to feel fresh and warranted all culminating in a truly gripping finale that for once actually ended things on a good note for Dexter. Brilliant cast, story and overall vibes Original Sin was such a bloody good time to kick off 2025
3) The Studio : I didn’t know what to expect from The Studio. I’ve rarely ventured outside my comfort zone when it comes to streaming but there was something about this show that just drew me. And draw me in it did as the writing and celebrity guest cameos on the show were all genius. Seth Rogen who I always felt was incredibly underrated is fantastic through the series he really is. An instant classic and a show I’ll now cherish forever.
4) The Last Of Us Season 2 : The Last of Us Part II video game is certainly a polarising game. Some fans love it some hate it. Overtime I’ve come to really like it so when the inevitable season 2 of the HBO show rolled around I was pretty cautious about it yet somewhat open minded. And after seeing it I was left with so many issues that the game first gave me. Bella Ramsey was not at all up to the task for this season I felt while Pedro Pascal wasn’t nearly as good as he was in season 1. The standout here was Abby played by the always excellent Kaitlyn Dever. So all in all this season not only underperformed but under delivered at least for me. Here’s hoping season 3 which will focus mainly on Abby will reclaim some of the charm of the first season.
5) Wednesday Season 2 : I quite enjoyed season 1 of Wednesday. It was fun, quirky and full of that Tim Burton charm. Season 2 however.. well not only did it feel really lackluster in its overall narrative it was painfully slow at times with only 2-3 episodes of any real impact. Jenna Ortega was fantastic once again and same goes for the cast who really do deserve better writing and character development. Wednesday season 2 wasn’t horrible but it just felt so underwhelming after such a long wait since season 1.
And there you have it my top 5 favourite shows of 2025. Some utterly captivating while others slightly fell below my own lofty expectations. I did try to take in a lot more TV this year and I feel like I did exactly that. Leave it to Dexter Morgan to steal the show on not one but two separate occasions. This year was pretty good for TV as a whole I felt I won’t mention what I disliked cause there’s a ton but I feel like these 5 best represent my enjoyment this year. A huge thank you to all who read this blog throughout the year it really does mean so much to me. I now bid you farewell and wish you a happy and prosperous upcoming new year!
