Stargirl 3x3 : Frenemies - Chapter Three : The Blackmail review
Be warned there will be SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
Another week and another great episode of Stargirl. This weeks episode opens up with Sylvester who we see attempting to live a somewhat normal life in Blue Valley. We see him getting coffee before heading inside of the diner. Inside he orders breakfast and begins talking to Yolanda who is at work there. He tells her that she is very much like Ted Grant (original Wildcat) as a person and that he would've liked her. He also mentions how he is all about finding balance now as he needs to find a purpose for when he isn't Starman. This of course is all coming from Courtney who still sees Starman as a like a father figure to her. We're soon with the Whitmore family and after Courtney cooks breakfast for the entire family they get interrupted by The Crocks who come into the house with their own more healthy breakfast. The Crocks relationship with the Whitmore family has been a highlight thus far and I'm really enjoying it. With Courtney soon off to School we see various other members of the JSA doing some detective like work. We see Beth and Rick together in his car. Beth gets sent some interesting files through her goggles where she learns that The Gambler was blackmailing The Crocks for reasons that remain unknown for the time being. This is pretty big news and is soon shared with everyone at school as they all once again sit at the lunch table for a JSA meeting. Cindy is even present who still has The Gambler's laptop and it was actually her who sent the files to Beth but she has no luck in getting any further into the laptop as it is heavily password protected.
Speaking of Cindy as she is at the JSA meeting her and everyone else is told by Courtney to not tell Sylvester about The Gambler blackmailing The Crocks because Courtney knows how he will react, look what happened last week with The Shade. Well Courtney's words are heeded but not by everyone as it is Cindy who blabs to Sylvester almost immediately. He closes the door on her face which was surprising but of course he goes and grabs the Cosmic Staff and finds The Crocks who are shopping at a grocery store. Inside it is announced that the store is closing in 5 minutes. Sylvester confronts The Crocks and as you'd expect a fight ensues. And boy what a fight it is as they cause and create havoc in the stores aisles. It is genuinely a great fight here and one that ends outside of the store as Pat arrives in S.T.R.I.P.E telling Sylvester to stand down. The fight is over and we're soon back at the Whitmore home again where The Crocks talk about the blackmail The Gambler was pushing upon them. It had to do with past ISA issues but what they didn't expect recently was that The Gambler backtracked on everything so much as even giving back The Crocks money which he got through the blackmail. So he was trying to change after all huh? Sylvester soon enters the home and is brought down to the basement by Pat.
The episode draws to a close as Pat and Sylvester have a deep meaningful talk about Courtney, Starman and stepping up to the plate to set a better example for all of the new JSA members. It's a great scene here as Starman vows to be better and set a better example moving forward, he just needs one thing. His suit. The episode ends as things begin to heat up even further in the murder mystery story. Starman goes to the scene of the crime where The Gambler was killed. We see someone watching not just Starman but pretty much all of the JSA members and even Blue Valley inside of a dark room. We see something, or someone watching who by physique alone looks incredibly strong and menacing. Who or what could it be?? and why is it watching everyone?? it's fascinating stuff here as the episode ends with Starman getting grabbed by this entity before being tossed back down onto the ground with blood covering his face. Is he dead?? what will Courtney think if he is?? this was once again a great episode and further proves Stargirl's excellence. Long may it continue.
