Stan & Ollie review

Growing up I was never a fan of Laurel & Hardy and even to this day I haven't gone back to watch any of their work. But now after seeing this wonderful movie I have a feeling that's all going to change. John C Reily and Steve Coogan are on top form as the iconic comedy double act Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy. Taking place during the latter years of their careers as the duo have conquered Hollywood and are being hailed as the greatest comedy act ever things slow down for the pair as the years go on and they get older. They get a chance to go on tour many years after their original stay atop Hollywood and both decide to give it a go. Both men as I said are on top form here with John C Reily at times eclipsing Steve Coogan's performance as both men really look feel and sound like the comedy icons.

The pacing throughout is fantastic as not a moment feels wasted with enough material punched in that you honestly won't get bored for a second. The jokes and humor are absolutely hilarious and even though meant for an older audience at times had me rolling in laughter almost. As the movie progresses and the characters develop it's easy to see why these two men were so loved. It's genuinely heartwarming and the opposite sometimes to see their relationship flourish, break apart and then be put back together again. And like I said it's all done in such a wonderful way that it's hard not to feel yourself getting deeply invested in it all.
With two fantastic leads, some bonkers comedy and an overall heartwarming message about friendship brotherhood and more Stan & Ollie is a fantastic look at the iconic comedy duo and is something that I highly recommend you check out.
