Top 5 favorite movies of 2018

Image
1) The Shape Of Water : Way back at the beginning of the year Guillermo Del Toro released The Shape Of Water which bagged him the Academy Awards for both director and best picture and deservedly so in my opinion. The Shape Of Water is a movie unlike any other I saw this year. It is breathtaking, ambitious, romantic and incredibly engrossing. Sally Hawkins performance as a mute woman was absolutely immense and at times had me even forgetting that she was playing a character. Michael Shannon put in a powerhouse performance that even made me a little bit afraid of him. The visuals were amazing, the acting was amazing and overall The Shape Of Water was cinema at it's absolute finest in 2018. If you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend it as I give it my favorite movie of 2018. 2) Mission Impossible Fallout : Incredible action set pieces and over the top stunts. What more could you want from a major blockbuster?? Tom Cruise and everyone else involved delivered one heck...

Bumblebee reivew

Image
Besides the original Transformer movie I've never really enjoyed it's subsequent sequels and even slight reboot of the series..that is until Bumblebee here has come around. A prequel that takes place years before the original movie Bumblebee is one of the most fun heartwarming and energetic movies you'll see all year believe it or not. Hailee Steinfield stars as Charlie a former diving champion whose father unexpectedly passed away. After his passing Charlie loses almost all hope for life as she was the best part of him. On the morning of her 18th birthday and after trying to convince her mother to get her a car she ends up finding a yellow beetle car at the old garage where she helps out. Turns out this yellow beetle is none other than Bumblebee a robot capable of many amazing feats sent to Earth at the very beginning of the movie by Optimus Prime as a scout of sorts and after running into the military and taking on another robot he goes into hiding after being badly da...

Mary Poppins Returns review

Image
Set many years after the original movie Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel in which Michael and Jane Banks are all grown up and after not only their fathers passing but the passing of Michaels wife leaving him and his sister to look after his children Michael begins working at the same bank as his father. One morning lawyers come to his door and state that his home is in fear of being repossessed as he has failed to keep up on repayments of a loan that he got from the bank. They give him only 5 days to sort it out before him and his family will be on the streets. It's a simple set-up and one that honestly goes by rather quickly. Having only watched the original Mary Poppins for the first time days before the release of it's sequel I have to say that I am very impressed. The original is an absolute classic and while this isn't perfect it almost is in every single way. Emily Blunt takes on the lead role this time around in place of Julie Andrews and she is splendid in the ...

Aquaman review

Image
The 6th movie into the DCEU gives us the origin tale of Arthur Curry. The son of a lighthouse keeper and a Queen of a civilization beneath the waves. Arthur is born to be king of Atlantis and rule over both it and the world above. Jason Mamoa reprises his role as the titular hero and he really is comfortable with this character now. Always cracking jokes and having a good time he IS Aquaman / Arthur Curry now. He shows a lot softer side to the character this time around however as he struggles to deal with both lifes he lives. He lives above the seas but he is bound to be the King of the ocean below. The way he struggles with his duties is entirely compelling throughout and the risks and battles he takes on to overcome everything put in his path is what ultimately makes him a hero. James Wan makes his entrance into the DCEU in style as he pulls off some of the most visually breathtaking scenes in comic book movie history. The first moment Arthur enters Atlantis with Mera (Amber He...

Legends Of Tomorrow 4x8 : Legends of To-Meow-Meow review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it Legends Of Tomorrow's mid season finale has come and gone and oh boy with it we were treated to one heck of an episode. It begins pretty much from where it ended last week with Charlie looking down at Zari who got turned into a cat after Constantine pretty much screwed over the entire timeline. Charlie sets the jumpship to bring back Zari to the waverider as she gets off in Las Vegas 1962. Posing as Marilyn Monroe she encounters a magical leprachaun in a casino and the two talk. And it is here where the episode just chucks everything out the window. Nate, Rory and Ray bust in and Ray ends up killing the magical creature by shooting him right through the chest. Turns out Constantine screwed the timeline so bad that Ray, Mick and Nate formed their own little magical creature killing group named The Custodians of Chronology after Sara yes Sara was killed by the unicorn way back ...

Supergirl 4x9 : Elsworlds (3) review

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it The 3rd and final part of this year's crossover between The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl comes to a close as enemies are defeated, reality is restored and an even bigger threat is coming. It begins where it ended in part 2 as a black suited Superman rushes into the scene confronting Barry & Oliver. Turns out this evil Superman is none other than John Deegan himself as he re-wrote reality in the last episode he done it so he would be Superman. The ultimate hero, who has everyone bowing to his will. Reminded me a lot of the Injustice games and comics which is what I'm sure they were going for here. At Star Labs and after Barry and Oliver escape his clutches Superman goes to see Kara in the pipeline whom he has had imprisoned. Kara desperately tries to get through to Alex who along with Killer Frost and Diggle are working for this evil Superman. Turns out he didn't onl...

Arrow 7x9 : Elseworlds (2) revew

Image
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it Part 2 of the crossover between Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl begins in Star City where lightning strikes are scattered across the skyline. Curtis and ARGUS come into contact with Deathstroke's son whom they attempt to take down. Things don't appear to be going all that smooth however as he gets the upper hand of the ARGUS agents. That is until Oliver, Barry and Kara show up to offer some much needed help. Back at the ARGUS safe location and Oliver, Barry and Kara ask Dig and the others to keep Star City safe while they all go to Gotham City to try and find out and reverse exactly what happened to them. Oliver and Barry actually talk about Batman as they leave the building. Oliver thinks he is a myth created by the GCPD to cause panic among criminals while Barry really does believe he exists. And exists he does as Kara flys Barry into Gotham City and Oliver speeds up a b...
