Supergirl 4x9 : Elsworlds (3) review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it
The 3rd and final part of this year's crossover between The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl comes to a close as enemies are defeated, reality is restored and an even bigger threat is coming. It begins where it ended in part 2 as a black suited Superman rushes into the scene confronting Barry & Oliver. Turns out this evil Superman is none other than John Deegan himself as he re-wrote reality in the last episode he done it so he would be Superman. The ultimate hero, who has everyone bowing to his will. Reminded me a lot of the Injustice games and comics which is what I'm sure they were going for here. At Star Labs and after Barry and Oliver escape his clutches Superman goes to see Kara in the pipeline whom he has had imprisoned. Kara desperately tries to get through to Alex who along with Killer Frost and Diggle are working for this evil Superman. Turns out he didn't only alter reality but he scrambled all the minds of those he has working for him leaving Alex with no recollection of who Kara really is.
Oliver and Barry who are also The Trigger Twins now come up with a plan to get Superman from Earth-38 (the good version) to come and help them deal with the situation. But they need Cisco's help and after meeting with The Monitor who tells them that he has been impressed with their resolve he mentions how in this reality all good guys become bad and vice versa so turns out Cisco is now a bad guy running a club with James Olsen as his bodyguard and even Gary from Legends Of Tomorrow working as a bartender. Barry and Oliver negotiate with Cisco and end up mentioning how they can get rid of this evil Superman who Cisco refers to as Superdick which was funny. All 3 breach to Earth-38's Fortress Of Solitude where upon arrival Clark thinks Cisco is now Kara after what happened in the previous episodes which was funny. Clark agrees to help them and they all breach back to this evil Superman reality where after reconnecting with her Alex is now on side thanks to Kara. This is where the episode really kicks things into gear as Supermen battle one another leaving chaos in their wake throughout the city. Kara manages to get the book and has Clark restore reality but it's short lived as evil Superman threatens to kill Barry if the book is not returned. So with the book in his command again Superman really ups the thinking factor and tries to completely bend reality to his will. Barry and Kara come up with a plan to run and fly around the earth so quick that they shift it's movement slowing down time in the process. Clark tells them that it's a bad idea as in the book he saw them both burst into dust almost and die but they go ahead with their plan. This is when Oliver goes to meet The Monitor by himself as he tries to convince him to change it so Barry and Kara live. We don't see what they two ended up agreeing on but Barry and Kara don't die as they overcome their ordeal and help with restoring reality. Lois Lane arrives on Earth with some backup in the form of Brainiac-5 and Martian Manhunter and along with Clark do battle once more with the evil Superman who ultimately is defeated as Barry and Kara's plan works and Oliver shoots the Book Of Destiny with an arrow completely destroying it leading to reality being completely restored in the process.
With the timeline now restored we're brought to Kent Farm on Earth-38 where Clark and Lois announce plans to move to Argo City as Lois is pregnant. Clark also mentions how Kara is better than him and that he is hanging up the cape for a while. Later at the Fortress Of Solitude Clark actually proposes to Lois who accepts without a second thought. This version of Lois & Clark was actually pretty amazing and felt really like how I imagined them in the comics. Skip to Barry and Oliver who are having a drink together. Oliver has to go away for a moment as he gets a call from none other than Batwoman he tells him that John Deegan better not be a big problem in Arkham as apparently he has made a new friend. This is the end of the episode as it flashes to coming in 2019 Crisis On Infinite Earths which is a BIG storyline from the comics. It is quite a bit task to take on honestly and I just hope they can do it justice next year. I expect big character deaths and worlds to merge into one as the Anti-Monitor arrives to destroy reality itself.
All in all this episode was really good and was a fine way to end what has been a great crossover. It started off amazing kind of dipped in episode 2 (minus the Batwoman stuff) but shot back up for it's grand finale. It's up there with the best crossovers they've done and is definitely going to be worth rewatching in years to come.
