Bumblebee reivew

Besides the original Transformer movie I've never really enjoyed it's subsequent sequels and even slight reboot of the series..that is until Bumblebee here has come around. A prequel that takes place years before the original movie Bumblebee is one of the most fun heartwarming and energetic movies you'll see all year believe it or not. Hailee Steinfield stars as Charlie a former diving champion whose father unexpectedly passed away. After his passing Charlie loses almost all hope for life as she was the best part of him. On the morning of her 18th birthday and after trying to convince her mother to get her a car she ends up finding a yellow beetle car at the old garage where she helps out. Turns out this yellow beetle is none other than Bumblebee a robot capable of many amazing feats sent to Earth at the very beginning of the movie by Optimus Prime as a scout of sorts and after running into the military and taking on another robot he goes into hiding after being badly damaged. It's a great setup truth be told and it works really well.

John Cena is also along for the ride as he plays the leader of the group in charge of hunting down Bumblebee after the run in with him at the beginning of the movie. But it's Hailee Steinfield who is amazing here. Her relationship with the transforming robot is the real highlight of the movie as it starts off as a timid albeit soft relationship but it turns into something much much more. Just her character Charlie in general grows into such a likable character as she journeys out of the dark period of after her dad's death and into the light as Bumblebee helps her and becomes her friend. As for the action setpieces they are in Transformers style epic on scale and a joy to watch. They're aren't that many as the movie really delves into the main characters more but when they do happen they aren't hard to find yourself getting into.
Bumblebee was a genuinely brilliant experience. One that I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. The dialogue is fast and witty the characters are easy to connect with and overall it's a really solid and entertaining movie. One of if not the best Transformer movies I've ever seen which isn't something I would have thought I'd be saying after seeing it.
