Scary Movie (2026) review
The gang is back together, The Wayans Brothers have got their baby back and boy has it been a long time coming. After their absence from Scary Movies 3-5 they’re back both in front of and behind the camera. The original movie will always hold a special place in my heart as one of my all time favorite comedy movies be they parody or otherwise. The premise this time around is akin to the original as the Ghostface killer is back to try and kill Cindy Campell (Anna Faris) and her now two children. It's goofy, it's silly and full of blood, guts and titties but man is this just an absolute riot.
Nothing is safe from being made fun of, from Scream, Halloween, Get Out and more the list goes on and on heck even K-Pop Demon Hunters gets it's own full animated spotlight in a very on brand way. As for the pacing sure it does have it's issues with some scenes really adding nothing to the overall narrative which in itself isn't exactly anything compelling but that's the point here truly. If you want good storytelling go elsewhere as jokes fill the screen time after time almost at a constant rate and while some don't hit for the most part they really do leading to one of my favorite theatre experiences this year.
Scary Movie isn't going to be for everyone obviously as if you didn't like the originals then you won't like this it's simple as really. If you are a fan however there is more than enough here to entertain you and boy did I laugh and laugh hard at times. The Wayans Brothers are back and comedy cinema is back in business!
